To be fair, there's some kind of glitch in the way my computer renders that game, and it goes excessively slowly. When I tried it at work the highest I could get was 22.

My wife noticed that it doesn't run very well at all on Macs... it works in Firefox on her Mac, but very slowly.  In Safari it didn't work at all.  The game runs, and she can move the red square around, but the blue ones don't move at all.  So she ended up with a time like 105 seconds or some shit like that.

Yup, same here - except the blue squares just moved really slowly and choppily, and then I got bored and quit.

I say thread necromancer's are entirely artificial, thus they're Artifact Creatures. Either that or Black, like you said.
