Yeah, I just downloaded it myself, and I like it. It seems to run a bit faster than IE.

Except it doesn't smell like fish.  :-o

Chrome... I was debating with a geek friend that this will actually hurt firefox and not IE. Personally, I run websites so this is just another browser to test my templates with. Grrrrr!

I have a few sites in the "most visited" tab, and I love it. One click, and I'm here, or BangedUp, or Mininova, or whatever.

I won't believe they're serious until I see a Linux version.  BEFORE this is out of beta.

On a related note (related to the thread that is), IE 8 Beta 2 makes teh forums look a bit strange.

Right now I have a scroll bar in the middle of my post field and I can only type out to about half the length before starting a new line.

EDIT: I guess they have a built in "Compatibility View" tool to fix this. Great, something else I have to remember to do.

I just installed Chrome on my computer and I'm pretty impressed with how quickly it renders web pages. I also like the fact that it has a built in spell check.

I might just think about using it instead of Opera.

FTA:

Quote
The Chromium site explains how to download the source code for Linux, Mac OS X, or Windows. Unfortunately, if you're eagerly awaiting a Mac version of Chrome, you shouldn't hold your breath. As the Mac OS X area of the Chromium developer site explains, "Right now, the Mac build is a work in progress that is much closer to the start than the finish." In fact, according to the latest status report, the Chrome developers have yet to get even the browser core running under Mac OS X. Rendering actual Web pages is still a long way off, to say nothing of a usable Aqua GUI.

Then again, the Linux version is in arguably even worse shape. If you were laboring under the assumption that a new open source browser from Google meant an automatic win for Linux, you'd better think again. The Windows version of Chrome isn't just the first to market; it's also the master mold for all the other versions. You won't see a Linux version until the Chrome developers manage to port the original Win32 codebase over to Linux, with all the headaches that implies.

Yep. I have it installed in XP Pro >Parallels > Macbook.

* 12AX7 is realizing having a mac is not really as great (for me) as a winbox...

 ie., I can't really do anything outside of what an installer or an apps options let me do. In Windows I know how it's put together (basically) and operates, and I know how to poke around and do pretty much whatever I want to do. I have no clue how to tinker around in OS X other than look at stuff in Finder.

Holy carp...  I just installed it on my big Windows pc; I must say I am impressed with the speed so far. Earlier I only had it on my mac and on my little piece of crap winbox. (It has a 533 Celeron and  384M of SDram; so it's almost not enough to even browse anymore.)
 And so far; I havent noticed any issues with this site like I mentioned elsewhere.

Applications-->Utilities-->terminal.app

I use nano as my editor but that's only because it was the first one I found and I got used to it. vi also makes an appearance.

You can also click on any app and then right-click-->show package contents to get an idea of its guts.

You're on that part of the "Mac Satisfaction" graph where you're missing your ability to get around in Windows. I didn't miss it for long.

It's been over a week's worth of usage here for me, and I must say, I've come to like it almost more than I like Opera. I've been a die-hard Opera fan for about 5 years now, and I think Google has won me over in just a week's time.

It's very fast, and I haven't noticed any problems with it rendering code in a funny manner that I'm not used to. Two thumbs up here.

That's how they getcha.

Chrome proxy issue solved:

 Thanks to MadOne I've fixed my issue. Chrome doesn't have its own proxy settings; it uses IE's settings. So if you ever use IE for work; Chrome will try to go through that proxy first.

 To solve this, you must edit your shortcut accessing chrome.exe. In the Properties dialog, in the Target box, edit the address "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" ( or whatever yours is; mine was different on the 64bit Win7) to include "--proxy-server=" (w/out the quotes) to the end of the string. Be sure there's a space between "chrome.exe" and "--proxy-server=".

 Ex.;

 "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --proxy-server=

 That's it. Now Chrome wont try to use IE's settings, and is back to opening pages FAST again.

 Don't thank me; thank MadOne.
