« on: January 09, 2009, 05:38:41 PM »

Yup, just like the Book thread and the Movie thread.  Let's see how many concerts we go to!

I would expect to go to 12-15 this year.  January will probably be a bust, but it should pick up next month.

woooo! I'm actually going to a concert in February, it's a slipknot concert.
I'm not a cult follower of them or anything, but I like them. I'm excited to be going to a concert!
I'm not getting near the moshpit, though...I can just have my own little mosh party with the few people I'm going with.

There's this local place in my town that has lots of shows with local bands of all genres, but I wouldn't personally call them concerts. But since it's the same concept it pretty much counts.
I can't really explain the difference between concerts and shows, but there's a difference  :-)

For the purpose of this thread shows are included too.  My first will probably be this Friday.  I plan to see Dolorata at the Red Devil Lounge.

12.  6/27/09 at Darryl's house in the Sunset Stripmall Architecture at an exclusive private show.
13.  6/30/09 at The Bottom of the Hill The Downer Party.  I didn't stay for the other two bands:  Living With Lions and The Swellers, because neither really appealed to me.  Downer Party kicked ass though.

11.  6/25/09 at The Bottom of the Hill, Triclops!, Helms Alee, Grayceon, and Rip Vaan Kringle.  Fantastic show.  Anyone who likes Tool should check out Grayceon and Triclops! is probably in my top 3 bands right now.
12.  6/27/09 at Darryl's house in the Sunset Stripmall Architecture at an exclusive private show.
13.  6/30/09 at The Bottom of the Hill The Downer Party.  I didn't stay for the other two bands:  Living With Lions and The Swellers, because neither really appealed to me.  Downer Party kicked ass though.

19.  10/3/09 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco--The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival where we caught Ricky Skaggs and the Kentucky Headhunters and Richie Havens.  Unfortunately traffic was horrible so we didn't get there in time to see Steve Martin with the Steep Canyon Rangers
20.  10/4/09 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco--The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival where we caught Booker T with the Driveby TruckersBooker T with the Driveby Truckers, then Doc Watson with David Holt, followed by Earl Scruggs, followed by Mavis Staples, followed by The Knitters (featuring John Doe and Exene from X), and culminating with Emmylou Harris

They estimated somewhere around 750K to 1M people there over the three day festival.  Most people I've ever seen before.  Six stages.  All for free.  Put on by bluegrass enthusiast, banjo player, and SF billionaire investment banker Warren Hellman.  This was the ninth year and my first.  It's on the calendar in perpetuity for me now.

1. 8/4/09 at Capitol Federal park at Sandstone : Bonnerville, KS : Taking Back Sunday, Weezer, Blink 182

2. 10/7/09 at The Uptown Theatre : Kansas City, MO : Manchester Orchestra, Brand New

Jessie of Brand New had the swine and was, admittedly, not hitting all the high notes. They were still amazing, though. Manchester Orchestra was great as well. Overall, a good show.

3. 10/25/09 at the Cotillion : Wichita, KS : Ben Folds

This was my fourth time seeing Ben in concert. He has never been to Wichita, but it was a great show as usual. It was a very different atmosphere than his usual concerts: smaller, quieter, but I enjoyed it save a few drunken assholes.

I hope he was sincere in coming back!
