Does the fact that many people are viewing this as a racist cartoon say more about the cartoonist, or the viewer?

I personally didn't associate the chimp with the president. I immediately went to the 1,000 monkeys at 1,000 typewriters saying.

It's a pretty big leap, as if someone is going out of their way to be offended. More importantly, it's not especially funny.

People will find a way to be offended by anything. I wouldn't have thought the chimp was an allusion to Obama

I couldn't find a picture of Sean Delonas, the cartoonist, but if he's a White man he MUST be a racist, right? We all are. It's a rule or something.

I didn't see it as racist either. I immediately associated the monkey with politicians in general, and specifically with politicians cluelessly messing about with the economy as being akin to "two monkeys fucking a football".

My mind also immediately went to Congress. You know...the people who actually wrote the bill.

Then I said, "Pfff, I bet people are gonna try to yell racism saying that the monkey is Obama." And Enrique almost thought I was nuts for a second but agreed when he thought another second. Like Joe said, you have to be looking for it.

Thought the Chimp was Congress. Which is giving Congress more credit than they deserve. I never did get the chimp/black person meme.

At another site someone mentioned why would anyone want a pet chimp. I quipped so they could be president one day. I was of course referring to Reagan, but I guess not everyone got that.

My first thought was the whole 'monkeys with typewriters' thing as well. Not sure if I'm racist or not. The definition changes too much. I don't think there is any type of human that is genetically inferior to another type. Does that mean I'm in the clear?

sounds okay to me, but I'm not the authority on that matter. I just think people who base there opinions on people due to the colour of their skin should just get to fuck.

Technically the lobbyists write the bills, not the politicians. even though this was Obama and Co's bill, I seriously doubt that any of them have read all 1071 pages - that's like, two really long novels
