Should Rihanna Lose her Endorsement Deals?
« on: March 10, 2009, 06:45:33 PM »

There's been some theorizing recently about whether or not Rihanna will lose any of her endorsement deals.  Apparently the discussion began right after she got the crap beaten out of her.  At that point, I would have boycotted ANY company that would have dropped her.  However, she has now gotten back together with the shithead that beat her up.  Do you think that sends a wrong enough message to youngsters that she should now start losing her endorsements?

Isn't she a spokesperson for some kind of makeup?  If anything she should get more from them...

Cherubim is plural; Genesis 3:24 specifies one flaming sword. Presumably flaming swords were in short supply."

Ha.  Ha.

Yes, she's got a deal with Cover Girl.  A company that markets (in large part) to teens and pre-teens.

If she does actually get back together with him I would have to say that she is terrible role model for anyone. Whether or not she should loose endorsements over it, however, launches me out onto a whole 'nother topic about how I feel about artists even having endorsements. We'll save that for later.

Yes, I think she's got a few screws loose somewhere and the best example she sets is the example of what NOT to do.

Not only did she get back together with her abusive boyfriend, they're going on tour together as a duo. Here's the song lineup, in case you haven't already heard:

  • Beat It
  • Black Eyes, Blue Tears
  • Hurts So Good
  • Fistful of Love

When Kate Moss was smoking crack or whatever. I didn't think she should lose endorsements, because she was selling perfume and clothes and she is a super model and has really very little to do with teens/pre-teens, then after the cocaine thing (it wasn't crack I was being dramatic) TOPSHOP a clothes outlet in England picked her up, this was stupid and shouldn't have happened because TOPSHOPS target market is teens, bad form guys! (Following the ethos, that no publicity is bad publicity)

Similarly, Amy Winehouse; who is just a musician and doesn't have any endorsements is not trying to portray any particular stereotype or appeal to the kids so let her carry on making music until she snuffs it.

However if Rihanna is aiming at teens/pre-teens and she is stupid enough to go on tour with her abusive boy friend, then I don't think she should be fronting advertising campaigns aimed at kids. Let her carry on making music, sure. But using her as a role model for teens is giving out the wrong impression, and can't be good for brand image.

I'd endorse her deal. If you know what I mean.

I'm not 100% sure that I do.

Just a musician?

Ms. Winehouse is doing England a favour, in bringing back "bad english teeth glamour."

I'm really curious about this whole british bad teeth thing. I first became aware of it when I was watching the simpsons. I'm not really sure where it came from? Its very weird.

Alot of it is the whole, "Haha, limeys, scurvy, sailers, haha" thing. But, the teeth were genuinely awful across the board until the 80's and the invention of modern toothcare. I think it had something to do with recessive Norman genes.

 :-D
I think she did an idiotic thing, yes.
But she's a musician, not a licensed psychiatrist.
I don't think people can [rightfully] blame Rihanna for their kids' bad decisions any more than they can Barbie for "creating the notion that 'thin is beautiful'."

If people are going to be weak willed, they will be weak willed regardless of who their role models are.

She should only lose her endorsments if she was endorssed by the WWE.
