Which is a very good god thing, as '86ed' is code for excommunication to Orthodox Alcoholics.

... Thanks for the intercession.

Actually that makes my mum sound like she is really mean. But in context, I regard people with intelligence very highly. My mum probably thinks a little to highly as a person's IQ doesn't dictate how good a person they are.

My issue with the above statement is that it sounds like you believe that faith and intelligence are incompatible, that is, it sounds like you think that if someone believes in a deity, you think that person is intellectually inferior somehow.

Faith is a deeply personal matter, and unfortunately it's one which inspires the worst sort of busybodies and imposition of values, on both sides of the fence.  I have no more business to impose my Catholicism on, say, Demosthenes, than he does to impose his atheism on me.  Fortunately, because we're rational and intelligent about the matter, he and I both understand this, so we accept it and move on.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who get stupid about matters religious (or lack-of-religious.)

The thing about a book like the Bible is that you can pretty much find whatever it is you want to find, and human nature is such that we only hear what we want to hear.  This is why, say, a Fred Phelps is able to justify in his mind that it's okay to say "God hates fags" (because the Old Testament is hard on homosexuality), but he conveniently ignores the parts involving loving your neighbor and casting the first stone and removing the plank from your own eye, etc.

Harsh.
What was their determining factor of your intelligence < their intelligence?
I'm curious.

I don't think it was said with that much intent to be honest. She certainly hadn't done her research. But I am guessing it is true, infact I am sure there are far more intelligent people than me who have faith.

I think she gets to be harsh because she's my mum, she tells to stop wearing boys clothes and wear make up as well. But she cooks me food and tells me she loves me too, to it all balances out.

It could be based on one of the following things also:

- I loose things more regularly that most people.
- I crash my car more times.
- I fall over whilst standing still.

Hum, I am not satisfied.

Answer this question.
There are two(2) columns, column A and B. You are told, "If there is an amount in column A move it to column B." You see an amount in column A, what do you do?

It sorta came across that way with that "valuing intelligence highly" bit, but looking back, yeah, I came on a bit strong.  Sorry.

No worries dude, good of you to apologise.

The valuing intelligence highly was meant as in, my mum thought it would sway my opinion about god because intelligent people also believe in god...but it doesn't.

Intelligence and wisdom are not always highly correlated.
