Title: Dear Mr. And Mrs. Weight Loss Seeker
Post by: Chris on February 27, 2008, 06:48:27 PM
To whom it may concern:

It has come to my attention that many people use these pre-spring and pre-summer months to get into shape before it's time to bare all for the sun come summer time. Though a good idea at heart, as I don't want to be looking at your fat ass in a bathing suit while at the beach, but this act of dieting should be carried out year-round rather than just a few months leading up to summer.

Instead of going out to eat three times a week like most Americans do these days, try to only go out once or twice a month - if that. Instead of going with a diet coke and a large portion of food, why not just water and a normal-sized portion of food?

"Dieting" doesn't just mean trying to lose weight. "Dieting" is a set pattern of eating over a prolonged period of time. Therefore, you should be engaged in healthy and smart dieting all year, rather than just several months out of the year. Instead of always feeling tired and run down since you eat like a brute, you'll feel more energized as well as being healthier and better looking.

Also, daily exercise works wonders too. Instead of taking the elevator up two floors, why not take the stairs and save the elevator for someone who really can't walk up the stairs? Instead of using the automatic door, why not push or pull a door to burn a few more extra calories? Anything that requires you to expend more energy will help in your quest to look better.

Perhaps instead of trying to place the blame of your fatness and laziness on others, why not come to the realization that you're a human being that has the ability to reason and make choices. No matter what we do, we have a choice, even if that choice is to not make a choice.

Regards,
Chris.

P.S., Here is some motivation:

If that isn't motivation for you to eat right, then god help you.

I don't even know if you could consider it a "value". Someone that obese is not healthy (Any medical doctor would agree with that statement after looking at that picture). Sure she might be happy and think she looks good in that bathing suit and it's simply more "cushion for the pushin'" but saying that she needs to exercise more or watch what she eats in order to improve her physical health is not imposing a belief, but rather telling her the truth.

...and she should quit smoking, and stop drinking, and not smoke pot, and buckle up, and observe the speed limit, and go to school and do something with her life, and stop wasting countless hours gaming, and not watch brain-rotting tv shows, and believe in God and the American Way. Also all true. But I will not be the one to tell her that.

We all find our own paths to Hell, and our own paths out of it.

The thread is addressed to weight loss seekers.  They're already trying to fall in line with the values that Chris is speaking about.  The image was offered as inspiration for THEM, not for her.

Weight loss seekers don't need to be told they are considered fat and ugly by young male internet users. They already know that.

Now that's funny given the name of the picture as it was first posted!

The guy in that picture is my friend, Don.  We're constantly giving him a hard time for being a bit chubby.  The trick he's doing is a back-roll, thus the name... chubroll.

Stop bashing her. First you take her love, then you take her land, then you take her where she cannot stand.

Well you know what? SHE DOES NOT CARE! She is still free.

You can't take the sky from her.

Since the new year, I've cut back my diet coke consumption to two a day (from 6-7) and substituted the rest with water. I've been eating a hell of a lot better as well. No more french fries and double burgers but lean meats, veggies and whole grains in addition to going to the gym on a regular basis.  I don't need a picture of a fat woman to motivate me because the gains I've been seeing from doing this is motivation enough. The ultimate goal here isn't to look good for the summer but to undo the damage that three years of sitting on my ass being addicted to World of Warcaft did to me.  :-(

I'm slender.  I am also honest to a fault.  Unfortunately, when people ask me what my secret is, I tell them the truth:

Entenmenn's Chocolate Fudge Cake, and Buffy on DVD.

That aside, I eat as healthy as someone with a limited budget and mostly dependent on cafeteria food can.  I don't work out, which I've heard is supposed to be good for you or something. ;-)

Just wait till I hit 30ish.  Apparently then I will be "in for it".

Seconded.

I have been behaving quite well, such as Xolik but have come to the realization that Girls Scout are little witches and should be taken out upon site.  The mere fact that their cookie drive happens after the New year's Resolutions wear off and during the 'big -oh crap I have to show skin again season' makes me hotter than a one legged lady at a butt kicking contest.  Luckily Northern Wisconsin/Minnesota people embrace the Krispy Kreme Philosophy.

I agree with Anyanka. I would also like to point out that thin does not equal healthy.
Losing extra weight is a large part of getting healthy, but it's not a panacea and it shouldn't be treated like one.
I know plenty of skinny people who will die of diabetes, a 'major weight related disease' my ass. I know, because I'm one of them. I'm hypo-glycemic, a pre-cursor to diabetes. It doesn't matter how healthy a life I live, the statistics tell me not 'I might' or 'It's probable', but I WILL die a diabetic. I may live longer if I keep a 'healthy' weight and eat a 'healthy' diet, and remember to graze on small protien rich snacks and avoid large meals or long times between them. I may live longer if I avoid simple sugars and I will probably die skinny if I do all of this. But I will still die of diabetes.
I may be thin, but that doesn't automatically make me healthy. Read all of those studies about 'weight related diseases' like heart disease, high blood pressure over again. Only a percentage of heart attacks can be allocated to obesity. The rest of the heart attacks doctors still have to chalk up to genetics.
Some of us are just fucked.

By the way, this came out a lot more morbid than I meant. If this seems depressing to anyone I apologize. To me, it's closure. Ummm... that sounded morbid too.  :|Oh well.

On a lighter note, you will likely die with it but not necessarily from it.  You may be hit by a toilet seat from the space station or something.

Were you aware?

Dead Like Me (Movie) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1079444/) - No Rube and they replaced Daisy, Daisy Adair.  Should be good just the same.  Roxy and George made that show any way.

I hate to burst your giant bubble of (apparent) self-pity, but (based on the information you gave above) statistics absolutely do NOT dictate that you will die of diabetes.  If hypoglycemia is a precursor to diabetes, it does not follow that you will absolutely get diabetes.  Let me put it this way, cervical dysplasia is essentially a pre-cancerous condition.  It does not mean that cancer will absolutely follow.

EDIT: I've just re-read my post, and I now realize that I sound like a complete bitch.  I'm leaving the post intact, but please know that I didn't mean any of it to sound as harsh as it does.  I'm having a crappy day and I just lashed out.

At the PUSA show I went to this weekend, I was on the main floor and I was shocked at just how out of shape I was when things started to really get rocking and the kids got rowdy. I guess thats the down side of going from PT everyday to a year and a half of nothing.

You didn't sound like a complete bitch. And you're right. And it wasn't self-pity... I guess it could of come off that way on some though. I kind of appreciate it when people 'lash out', their true opinions aren't skewed by false social requirements. ("You be cordial and make a good impression" bullshit.)
Anyway, reading back on the post, I realize I probably got a little off my main point... Okay I got WAY of my main point. Which was, people treat weight loss like it's a panacea for all their little health problems and just because I lost a bunch of weight means I'm healthy now and will stay healthy as long as I stay skinny. Which just isn't true. Weight loss while being a big part of getting healthy, is still only a part, not the whole.

I was doing quite well with working out everyday until about a year ago i got in a car accident and fractured several vertebrae, after healing i still go but it got cut back quite a bit autumn quarter because of classes i was taking, my plan is to get organized and everything in order by the end of this week which i've already started doing, and have a schedule to exercise, work out, study and relax on top of work.  Busy schedule but i think it can be done.
