False. I am a dog of the western world.

IBTNP has seen Ghostbusters recently.

I haven't played the video game but I've heard that it is painfully awful when compared to the P&P experience.

I only played it because I could get it for $5 on the original Xbox. And it made for some decently entertaining multiplayer (I mean, come on, how can you not enjoy giant zombie teddy bears?)

Nope. Hunter: The Reckoning.

That was a P&P? Cool. I'd only ever played the videogame.

That's one view... some Jews call him a rabbi.  The gamut pretty much runs from indifference to reverence as a prophet.
Kind of beside the point, unless you really think the person mentioned in the article gave it this much thought.
Who said prejudice required much thought? :)
I know there are lots of people who don't think about it, and just fuss because things aren't squarely focused on their religion/interests/whatever. But there are some people who legitimately feel strongly about it.

Historically speaking, I could say he was blue. Supposedly they aren't to view his image, amirite?
So who says I wouldn't be correct in my Blue Muhammad?
That raises an interesting wrinkle.
Does that mean they can't look at *any* image of a man, for fear that it may happen to look like Muhammed?

Same as the common term "strong atheism". People intuitively understand what "hard" implies, so I use it in mixed company.
Ah, hmm. Seems I've always marked that in my mind as being agnosticism vs. atheism, rather than weak vs. strong atheism. The wikipedia article doesn't do much to disambiguate that. But I get the picture.

For those that don't know me, I am a hard atheist

As opposed to a flaccid atheist?

Jokes aside, and out of curiosity; how would you describe the distinction?

Sorry - NUBIAN - so yeah, not really white...
So a white person couldn't speak from a nubian-influenced viewpoint? ;)
Race doesn't factor into it. You can try and make it important, sure, but when it boils down to it... it doesn't alter anything he said or did. Nor can it reliably be inferred from the records we have, unless you want to go with the safe "Jewish" bet.

Karma cannot be recreated or deployed!
Psht, you can always recreate it.
Unless you use a Hand of God, in which case you have to earn it back again.

Skin colour denotes ethnicity. Ethnicity denotes custom and tradition.

His customs and traditions are well established; He was Jewish.
Unless you're referring to modern Christian customs and traditions... in which case I repeat, if his skin color affects that, then somebody's missed the point.

Good way to start a workday :)

Quite frankly, if you believe Jesus is who he said he was, but feel like you need to open a debate about his skin color...... you're missing the point.

Entertainment / Re: Fantasy Novels on Screens Large and Small
« on: December 11, 2008, 09:13:42 AM »
As a general rule, though not always obeyed, movies based on fantasy novels do well on a stand-alone basis. As in, on their own, they're half-decent movies, but when compared to the book, they suck.
Why?
Because fantasy novels are filled with hours upon hours of content that a movie producer couldn't fit into a six part mini-series even if he had a limitless budget. So, shit gets shuffled. In the shuffling, some of it may fly into the path of a fan.
Conclusion, it was a nice movie and I pretend it had nothing to do with that book that I read that just happened to have the same name. But then, I'm not human, so you can ignore me.

And then there was LotR, which made it OK to do 3.5 hour epic movies.
And, really, who missed the scourging of the shire? Some smaller plot points and character traits aside, Jackson actually did a decent job of stuffing those movies.

GM: Roll to stop the vehicle before you plow through a poorly visible obstacle at high speed.

DB: Okay. Thank you extra points in Drive =)

DB: /roll  *botch* We're so screwed

GM: You overreact and miss the brake peddle. You stomp the floorboard. Dumbass.

DB: I want to roll to avoid the obstacle without stopping.

GM: Roll it.

DB: /roll *botch* Whisky Tango Foxtrot!!

GM: Besides stomping the floor like an idiot, you misjudge your turn and plow through the little girl you were trying to avoid. You take a derangement...Hysteria.

DB: Fuck.

Shadowrun?

You should've burned some karma.

Also, Jesus was a Jew

...Who went completely against a lot of rabbinical teachings, brazenly and repeatedly committed what to them appeared as blasphemy, and apparently misled a large portion of the Jewish race through his message and example.

Not that I agree with any of that, but... yeah, I can see how they could find him offensive, tangents aside.

Can't say. I'm admittedly uncultured when it comes to russian lit; I've read Anna Karenina because I had to for class, but that's it.

IBTNP reads at least three books for pleasure each year.

does anyone other then me think heros is becoming oober gay?

I watched the first season, and then eagerly watched the first episode of season 2.
I haven't been back since.

That said, I have friends that still think it's a great show. So... to each their own, I guess.

I understand. Maybe my perspective is different because I've only ever seen one McGiver episode. When RDA faded away, I felt the chemistry change, but not fatally. On the other hand, if Chris Judge had left the show, I think it would've been fatal.

Have you seen Farscape?
They totally wasted Browder by trying to preserve the RDA chemistry through him, which is really what bothers me. I think they realized that in the 10th season and it's been getting better since then.
Plus, seeing Farscape makes Episode 200 all that much more hilarious.
* duwanis watches episode 200 again...

I will tell you something now, anthough my views are controversial. Two things:

1. Season 6 is the best season, because of the Jonas character. Yes, I went there.

Oh, I agree. I'm also personally hacked with Shanks because of his reasons for leaving for that season. This may or may not have played into my appreciation for Corin Nemec.

2. RDA has been dialing it in since season 8, so I don't miss him. He's been recycling the same joke and grimace for years. However, I think Browder exceeded expectations, and only because of him did they last through a tenth season.
I just hate how Browder was trying to be RDA for the first, what, season and a half? I know he was probably told to, but still. They could've let him do his thing.
Also, I still cringe when I think about his 'backstory' exposition at the start of season 9.

This becomes clear in Continuum: see it, and tell me what you think. I think it's lots better than Ark of Truth, and Browder shines.

Will do.

What was this thread about, anyway?

Gotta move on.

I know. It's hard, though.
if(!farscape) RDA >>> Ben Browder

"Universe" coming next summer!

Indeed. I still need to go buy Continuum (I know, I'm a bad fan)

No. I believe it's "Fling The Flaming Yams"

I'm sure it is.

That explains so much.
