I work in the bakery department of a grocery store in a very tourist-y area of the Pocono mountains.  It's hell on Earth.  Today:

Customer: I need a birfday cake.

Me: Well, you've come to the right place.  All of our cakes are in this case here.

Customer: MAN, THESE AIN'T NO BIRFDAY CAKES!  THEY GOT FLOWAHS AND SHIT ON 'EM!

Me: ...well, ma'am, they're pretty much general purpose cakes.  They can be served for just about any occasion.

Customer: *stalks off to the Carvel ice cream cake freezer*

Customer: *shoves ice cream cake at me*  Write "Happy Birfday, Shawn" on this.

Me: Is that spelled S-E-A-N?

Customer: :x ESS.  AITCH.  AY.  DUH.  BA.  YOU.  EN. :x

Me: *writes on cake and hands it to customer*  There you are, ma'am.  Thank you very much.

Customer: How much is it?

Me: $27.99; you can pay for it at the registers up front.

Customer: I AIN'T PAYIN' NO 30 DOLLAHS FUH NO BIRFDAY CAKE!![/b]

Me: *facepalm*

Call me crazy but I don't actually mind the romance between spock and Uhura.

A pox on all your houses.

Ooh.  Nice Conky.  If you want, I can upload my own Conky config.  It's the one you can see in this screenshot.

Ooh, please do.  I like the big time/date on top.  :-)

My own .conkyrc, tweaked a bit since I took that screenshot.

It's not necessarily a hacker movie, but everyone should see 1981's Evilspeak with Clint "GAAH JESUS Weird Tingly Feeling HAPPENED TO YOUR FACE" Howard.

I'd like to hear a spoken-word cover of that song by Charo.

Fun fact: her full name, according to Wikipedia, is María Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Moquiere de les Esperades Santa Ana Romanguera y de la Najosa Rasten.  Holy tits.

Old new haircut.  (It's been almost two weeks.)

Dunno why I look pouty; I'm in a good mood.

Bad fake smile.

Flamer's Corner / Re: The 'Let's Bitch About Our Jobs' thread.
« on: April 03, 2009, 10:16:06 PM »
I've been at my new job for three weeks and, luckily, I don't have much to complain about.  (Aside from the pay, that is...but what did I expect from a grocery store?)

The only thing that's irked me thus far has been my training.

Tuesday:
Co-Worker 1: Do this like that.

Thursday:
Co-Worker 2: He told you to do this like that?  Don't listen to him; he's a dumbass.  Do it a completely different way.

Friday:
Co-Worker 3: How did they tell you to do it?  They're both morons; do it a whole 'nother completely fucking different way.

Apply that to just about every task I was being trained to do.

I grew up in north Jersey...the Indian kids and I were pretty much the only non-Catholics at the grammar school I went to.  The meat thing always confused me.

Also, around first grade:

Me: You've got some dirt on your forehead.
Teacher: Ugh, it's Ash Wednesday.

And that was all the explanation I got.

Oh!  Ok, well then I'm a black guy.

There are no black guys on the Internet either.

Anyhow...hey, n00benstein.

EDIT: The above is a play on "Frankenstein," not "new Ben Stein."  Yes, I just woke up.

I thought the beard really worked for you.

Thanks, mang.  I like the way it looks on me as well, although various creatures with vaginas have told me they don't like it.  I should probably start listening to them.

Did you shave it off because of your recent job interview?

Actually, I think my mustache looks dumb so I figured I'd get rid of just the 'stache/connectors and go for the Abe Lincoln look I'm so fond of.  I sneezed while trimming one of the connectors and carved a big ol' bald patch in my face.  Sadly, that's not the first time I've done that.  Whenever I'm sans beard, there's a damn good chance it's because I messed up while trimming or shaping.

The grocery store made me sign a copy of the dress code which said, among standard retail/grocery dress code fare, "male employees must be cleanshaven."  I've seen a lot of employees in there with facial hair of one kind or another, though, so I'll grow it back if it turns out they've abolished the facial hair rule.

Haven't I seen you in a movie somewhere? Maybe when you were younger?

Ah, that's it:

I'd bite you for saying I look like Ralphie if I hadn't thought that myself just yesterday.
