« on: June 30, 2008, 09:34:38 AM »
Its my new favourite thing to do while bored on the internet. The goal is to get from a random page on wikipedia to Adolf Hitler in five links or less.

What is the scariest part? Its really easy.

 My favourite?

1. Monaco Music Film Festival
2. DB Sweeny
3. Jerico
4. United States
5. Hitler

Another good one was

1. Early Bird
2. US Department of Defense
3. WWII
4. Hitler

Political Opinions / SHould McCain Learn to Use a Computer?
« on: June 26, 2008, 06:16:27 PM »
I try not to get caught up in all the usual flaming that occurs during political seasons, I mean everyone has flaws, right? However this grabbed my attention.

http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/06/mccain-reps-com.html

"During the 2008 presidential race, John McCain's online team has often used web video to get the candidate's major campaign themes out onto the internet.

But an offhand verbal riposte by one of the members of that team has turned into a viral video that's providing just the kind of attention they don't want. It's reviving the idea that the Republican presidential candidate is clueless when it comes to technology."

I know that computer illiteracy this isn't uncommon among the older generations, although it is worrisome in a US president.

Entertainment / Radio Piracy! Burn them! Burn Them!
« on: June 26, 2008, 05:47:23 PM »
http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/06/recording-indus.html

"The recording industry and U.S. radio companies have squared off for decades about whether AM and FM radio broadcasters should pay royalties to singers, musicians and their labels.

But now the debate is getting meaner; there's more at stake as the recording industry seeks new income avenues in the wake of wanton peer-to-peer piracy and declining CD sales in part due to the iPod and satellite radio. A U.S. House subcommittee could vote as early as Thursday on a royalty measure."

good god.

Anarchy / NPR Tackles Facebook Etiquette
« on: June 25, 2008, 12:14:53 PM »
As you may know NPR is a radio news station which discusses current events, politics and culture. Yet even though the average age of an NPR listener is 47, the station surprises me sometimes. A few days ago, I was listening to this story about social network etiquette:
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91769865

"Once you've learned how to navigate new communication technologies, there's a new problem to tackle: how do you actually communicate? Should you ignore the unsolicited invitations to play online Scrabble and compare movies you've never seen with someone you've never met? Can you be friends with someone you've never met? Can you ignore their "friend" requests? Steve Johnson, Internet critic for the Chicago Tribune, explores the nuances of online etiquette with Scott Simon."

Its just so bizarre to hear these older men discussing the etiquette of a friend request on Face Book.

I <3 NPR.

Anarchy / D&D ?
« on: June 20, 2008, 08:59:25 PM »
So, My boyfriend (who live I with) needs a fourth player for D&D and he invited me to play with his group of guy friends. Generally when the guys come over, I will bake something for them (I want to become a pastry chief, so its good practice) and then hang out for an hour or so, then l will typically try to leave so that they can have some guy time.

I have a couple concerns with starting to play:

1. I only have a vague idea of how to play D&D (though I am willing to learn) and I am not sure where to begin or if I'll even enjoy it. I have kind of played once and I was terribly confused.

2. Although, I am good friends with his guy friends I am worried about becoming that type of girlfriend that is always hanging around. I want my B/F to have some guy time, I mean we have been dating for three years and we live together.

Does anyone play D&D? Have any advice? Is this a good idea? Would it be rude, not to play?

Thanks!
