Hihi, sounds to me like you are indeed a geek! Fortunately, that is a big plus around here :D

Anyways welcome, looking forward to hearing more from you. I'm really curious what German with a Spanish accent sounds like :-D If you could pick up a bit of Dutch I am sure you'll manage with German. Where in Germany are you going? Good luck!

Nice pictures, all! I am so rubbish at guessing women's age though... makes me wonder how many women I thought were a lot younger than they actually were

So if twenty/thirty-something women want to look younger and twenty/thiry-something men prefer to look a bit older (or more 'mature', crap like that) that leaves us with... women prefering slightly older men, men prefering slightly younger women and in the end we're all the same age? Then there's being 'creative' when someone asks how old you are as well ;)

It's all making sense now... or not

Entertainment / Re: Fight Club
« on: June 09, 2009, 02:57:05 AM »
Fight Club is like a weird experience... for me (and I'm dead serious) it hit some dark spot right on, I 'got it'. One of my favourite movies of all time, definitely.

If you didn't feel a thing, it is probably just a weird movie with people punching each other in the face.

Here's a few memorable quotes:

"Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off. "

"Look, the people you are after are the people you depend on. We cook your meals, we haul your trash, we connect your calls, we drive your ambulances. We guard you while you sleep. Do not... fuck with us. "

"Warning: If you are reading this then this warning is for you. Every word you read of this useless fine print is another second off your life. Don't you have other things to do? Is your life so empty that you honestly can't think of a better way to spend these moments? Or are you so impressed with authority that you give respect and credence to all that claim it? Do you read everything you're supposed to read? Do you think every thing you're supposed to think? Buy what you're told to want? Get out of your apartment. Meet a member of the opposite sex. Stop the excessive shopping and masturbation. Quit your job. Start a fight. Prove you're alive. If you don't claim your humanity you will become a statistic. You have been warned- Tyler."

God, Mega Speed Reading... there's a scam I absolutely fell for! Back when TV shopping was still a novelty, audio CDs a luxury and I needed to pass exams - QUICKLY! :)

Hey Semiotica,

Welcome! It's funny isn't it, you are in sunny Spain and I'm stuck in this overcrowded hole that you seem to enjoy. Apart from the language (I've tried Spanish... I was kindly asked to make myself dissapear from future classes), I think I'd much prefer your country :)

Glad you had a good time though! I'm from Noord-Brabant in the south.

I love it when people solve problems before I even know there was a problem. Someone please explain this to my colleagues?

Make love, not war. Or both.
(jeee can explain)

Sounds like an awesome plan! I haven't been to Canada yet, but it is supposted to be awesome so do make sure you take a good look around as well :) Although... I assume for most Americans a trip up north isn't all that exciting huh?

Haven't made up my mind yet Chiro, immigration laws are quite restricting and incredibly bureaucratic. My best bet is South Australia/Adelaide due to the regional stimulus programme (they actually HELP you) and my idea is to not be too picky at first. Although I've never been to that part, it does also seem like a particularly nice starting point.

But... I have also recently started considering New Zealand as well. That might sound odd, but like I said, it is all about a starting point and rubbing the bureaucrats the right way to smooth things out. Your countries have extremely close ties, so once I am 'in' in either, I can take it from there. And NZ does have its appeals as well, although I've not yet been there.

I have been on this track for years now, accumulating work experience and all, I hope to make my move within the next 3-5 years.

Hope I didn't hijack your thread now

You've just inspired me to start calling "Pro-choice" people "Anti-life" instead.
You are right... in my defense, I am not a native speaker and no derogatory* meaning was intended. I apologize. Post edited.

* yes I did have to look that up.

Good point Chiro. I don't know, probably nobody knows. But I do know that I cannot consider a clump of living cells to be a person. The medical limit is 22 weeks I think, I would not stretch it that far personally. In my view, abortion should be done early or not at all. But I don't have to make the call for others.

As much as I respect pro-life opinions, I think things change dramatically when it is no longer an academic problem, when judging from a distance will not longer suffice. What if you or someone very close to you gets raped & pregnant as a result? Any one is entitled to his or her opinion and I don't expect anyone's to change, but I would like to believe that when it matters, human compassion while come to the fore front. Not some misguided dogma. And that's what really matters.

Haha maybe you are, but you're also a great bunch of people living in a wonderful country. I've never felt so at home as I did in your country. To me, that means something.
