Weird Tingly Feeling is up with PB?
« on: July 03, 2005, 11:26:04 PM »

Well folks it's been a fun run.  Out IT department has entered the new millenium.  We have a new server (the old novel netware antique has been put out to pasture).  I have a brand new IBM box.  Sure it's speedy, but now instead of winblows 98se I have XP pro and between that and the new server, I am blocked out of loging in to any sites (unless I can convince them that a place like Teh Geekery, BC, HN, or Somewhere is necessary for work).  So I won't be able to login from work any longer.  The wife expects me to spend time with her at home so my visit to these sites will be quite sparse.  I shall miss you all.  Feel free to emale me at my yahoo or gmail addresses (I was able to convince IT that I needed to get to my my.yahoo account and google.ig accounts because I have them set up to track the industry).

Ugh, that stinks! I'm sure there's a solution somewhere ;)

I couldn't live w/o my net addictions. I'd probably stop breathing.

I need to have a proxy that I can get IT to enable cookies for.  That's the problem.  Unfortunately I can't change any settings and it's all part of my profile.  I was lucky to talking them into letting me have yahoo and google.  Sites like these (VB, BB, etc.) require a cookie to login and I'm set to not accept login cookies.  If you have a workaround let me know.

can you copy cookies? It's just a txt file, right? Could you copy one from home and put it on your machine there? Or can you not even get to the sites?
If you log in at home with "remember me" checked, then find and copy that cookie (txt file), get it to your work machine (email, disk, cd), place it in the right location - wouldn't the site "see" you as already logged?
Or is there more to cookies than that?

Yeah, there should definitely be a workaround for this, it's just a matter of the time you're willing to put in and how likely you are to get in trouble for trying.

That does suck PB.  But before you go working around it make sure they aren't logging everything you do and everywhere you go.  It might be fun to come in here during work but loss of job from it wouldn't quite be worth it.

Oh and who said they used google's cache to view sites while at school?

Oh I can view any site, I just can't login and be chatty.  If I were the introverted lurking non attention whore type, it would be fine but this is me we're talking about.

Is remote desktop to a home machine an option?

That might be a possibility.  But I'd have to get a new box at home which I need to do anyway.
