Man that game is freakingly good. Perhaps best game I've ever played. In my top three, in any case. Its just too addicting.

Yep, Sid Meier. I was addicted to CivI, a little bit to civII, not at all to civ3, nor CTP, but CIV4 is total madness :D

The biggest plus is I think you've got way bigger freedom in for example unit promotions, goverment types and wins.

I've been a HUGE fan of the Civ games since the beginning.  I was utterly dismayed, however, when Civ IV wouldn't work on my laptop.  My graphics card (ATI) wasn't compatable.  After doing some research, I found many other laptop users were experiencing the same problem and it appears that the developers weren't planning on fixing the problem.  I then returned the game.

Since then, however, I've built my own PC which I know will be compatable with Civ IV.  I'm not really sure if I want to buy it again, though.  I've been such a huge fan of the series, but for them to release a game that wouldn't work on such a large % of people's computers and not seem to care about fixing the problem makes me not want to give them my money again.

However, I'm sure I'll probably fold and get the game.  I just can't stay away from a good Civ game....

I loved Civ 1 and Civ 2.

Civ 3 was the suck.

Civ 4, once I get the latest patch installed (which is supposed to fix a bunch of massive performance issues) has the potential for being great, from what little I've played it.

I like the interface changes they made... they're actually more intuitive than earlier versions.

I too like Alpha Centauri.  That's the approach they should have taken with Civ 3 as far as improvements to the engine and interface, in my opinion.

Yeah, the gameplay in Civ3 was horrible compared to Civ1 and Civ2.
I should still have Civ1 somewhere in basket of 3,5inchies in a dusty layer...

I played the demo of civ 4 for a couple days. Being a huge fan of Rise of Nations, that I still play, I thought it looked like my type of game. After playing it for a while I learned what 'turn based' strategy game meant, and its just not my type of game.
