Probably not a virus, more a mallicious keyboard remapping script.  Could be running at startup, or it might have altered your registry.

Think about what you've downloaded around the time it started happening and consider reverting to a system restore point from before the problem.

Apart from that, the most obvious advice would be not to press shift.  Use the on-screen keyboard or character map.

(Oh, and THIS IS NOT A TECH SUPPORT FORUM!! - but I'll offer some advice this once.)

Don't need antivirus either. Just like Mac.

In more ways than that!

Have you tried taking out your shift key, washing it, and putting it back in? Sometimes that helps, believe it or not.

Gunk that builds up underneath the key will cause an electric current to pass through the board in such a manner that can actually cause your computer to shut down or reboot without you knowing.

Hope that helps.

download the program called hijackthis.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Run it, check to see if an update is available.

Run the check and look at the report. For every single entry you don't recognize (dll or other files), do a search on the filename at this site: http://www.processlibrary.com/directory

It will tell you if it's legitimate or not. If it doesn't come up on the search results, odds are it's a problematic file that needs to be fixed but you may want to google it first and try to find out more about it. Spot the files you'll want to get rid off and click the checkbox next to it. Continue down the list until you verify them all. Then from your hijackthis tool, click fix selected problems (or what ever the funciton is called).

If you delete something you're not supposed to, that could seriously fuck up your machine so be sure you know what you are doing and fully understand what you are deleting.

Now, my Mr Nice Guy moment just passed. Please don't post for support here again because we have better things to do than troubleshoot your PC. One of those things includes a very serious Geekery photoshoping contest!

Besides this is not a helpdesk I found the problem interesting. so I went on a little stroll:

W32.Welchia.Worm is a worm that exploits multiple vulnerabilities, including:

The DCOM RPC vulnerability (described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-026) using TCP port 135. The worm specifically targets Windows XP machines using this exploit.
The WebDav vulnerability (described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-007) using TCP port 80. The worm specifically targets machines running Microsoft IIS 5.0 using this exploit. IIS 5.0 will most likely be found on Windows 2000 systems.

W32.Welchia.Worm does the following:

Attempts to download the DCOM RPC patch from Microsoft's Windows Update Web site, install it, and then reboots after the Shift or Alt key is pressed.
Checks for active machines to infect by sending an ICMP echo request, or PING, which will result in increased ICMP traffic.
Attempts to remove W32.Blaster.Worm.

Also Known As: W32/Welchia.worm10240 [AhnLab], W32/Nachi.worm [McAfee], WORM_MSBLAST.D [Trend], Lovsan.D [F-Secure], W32/Nachi-A [Sophos], Win32.Nachi.A [CA], Worm.Win32.Welchia [KAV]

Type: Worm
Infection Length: 10,240 bytes

Systems Affected: Microsoft IIS, Windows 2000, Windows XP
Systems Not Affected: Linux, Macintosh, OS/2, UNIX, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me

There was a solution but I forgot to paste that here. I found it using Google..

Good Luck.

I finally figured out why Agent Smith looks so sad in your avatar. He's being rained on and he doesn't like getting wet.
