Dept of Homeland WHAT?

This is great.
"More than 800 security incidents plagued the department over the past two years, including viruses, password-stealing programs and "Trojans" or hacker tunnels found on some workstations. "

"The Department of Commerce was hacked last year by computer criminals in China that forced one to get rid of hundreds of computers and set up a new network system. Similar attacks at DHS show that someone on the outside likely has access to department accounts."

Why is our government's cyber security in such bad shape? Answer:
"I don't think there's a particular vulnerability at DHS," Chertoff said.
Scott Charbo, chief information officer for DHS, has done a "good job of consistently raising the level of security," Chertoff added.

Does he realize how ill-informed, stupid, and amazingly incompetent his statement. . .  never mind. I guess not.

Chances are they view IT like many other businesses and educational institutions do: Black holes of need.

IT: Our equipment went EOL three years ago, half the admins we picked up from Monster.com think TCP is a drug of some sorts and the top management wants us to roll out a new untested security suite they discovered while leafing through PC World while on the crapper. Oh, and did I mention we have had no serious budget for training for the last five fiscal years?

Management (duing their bi-monthly 'status meeting' at the local country club): God, IT complains too much. Let's cut their funding by 20% and outsourcing half of them to India. Then we'll hire my buddy Mike as a 'consultant' at an obscene rate just he can cross out the IT group's names and put his own over the Domain Migration plan that they've been working on for the past three years. Then we'll give ourselves bonuses for the cost savings we got from the outsourcing. HUZZAH!

I'm sure it's something along those lines.

That's great when you think about it. Outsourcing our Homeland Security security to some mid-eastern country. No wonder they took over help desks. It's the NEW WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION! T3H HELLpD3sK!!

I thought they backed down on giving the ports over to the UAE after so many people bitched about it. Did something change? I haven't been following up on it.

That's another one of those "mysteriously disappeared from the headlines" news items, isn't it?

We should outsource the 'mysterious disappearances' department to Russia.

I'm not so sure  :| ....   even though the average homeland security agent-on-the-street if pushed into an IQ test would probably return a negative result, this is Core center HQ stuff here. Oopsidents of that number and magnitude is hard to believe.

This sounds more like public opinion pre-conditioning story "leak" ... a pretext to bigbrotherise the net.

Oh.. no, you're right, as far as I know. I think I was thinking about the Chinese shipping companies. I must've equated reading "mid-eastern" with "foreign". Sorry. It's the redneck in me; pops out sometimes.

I'm pretty sure all they'd need do to big brotherise the net is say that Terry Wrists and all his scary buddies are hanging out there clogging the tubes with invisble WMDs.

LOL.  Yep, another case of the left hand not having a clue what the left wrist is doing.  How typical of the US Government.

LOL. Yet another example of fucking noobs coming in unannounced and bringing up old threads to add nothing. How typical of a spammer.

Hmm...  :-D

I bet most of the people on this website are better at security systems than the F.B.I.

Ahh... The sweet sound of the F.B.I. complaining that America's major deficit is underfunding the F.B.I.'s
IT  people.

What?  You didn't learn from the slapdown BizB just gave you in the other thread?

Options
Make an introduction thread.
Go away.
Set yourself on fire.

The last two can happen in any order, or simultaneously, or not at all if you introduce yourself properly.
