Road Trip
« on: September 13, 2007, 07:17:02 AM »

Mrs Socrates and I are doing our first road trip for a couple of weeks in October.  Through a long conversation we realized that there were a bunch of places we hadn't  been together, plus the thought of what fun it would be visiting breweries and wineries got us motivated enough to do it.

So the short version of the story is we are planning on going from RI out to Western MA, up through Vermont to Montreal then down and around through Ontario to Niagara Falls and back across New York and back through MA to RI.  We're giving ourselves a couple of weeks and what I just typed is pretty much our itinerary.  We've started looking at Breweries and Wineries in Vermont and New York, as well as other things we might find interesting (a good hike, disc golf course, interesting  museum for example).

Why am I telling all of you? I'm looking for suggestions.  We fully realize that the winery with the useful web presence may not really be the best but from RI I can't find them if they aren't on the web (or in some AAA books we've gotten).  So if anyone out there knows of any places along that vague suggestion of a route that we must visit please tell me.  I'm looking for Wineries, Breweries in specific but the wife and I are pretty outdoorsy so great hikes (1/2 days at most), good scenery/campsites or even museums or architecture would be useful.  Heck if anyone can recommend B&B's in the finger lakes region or anywhere along the route that would be great also.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and we've already started a bunch of research so don't be offended if say "I already found that one"  A positive suggestion increases the chances of us making a point to get to that place.

P.S. See BizB I'm taking your post about not starting threads to heart.

That sounds like a lot of fun.  I've wanted to do a road-trip camping thing like that and the finger lakes of western NY would be a great place to do it.  Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with that region.  So, I can't really offer any suggestions.

Maybe you could go from renaissance festival to renaissance festival and get your wench on while you're at it!  Oh, and smoke a blunt while thumbing your nose at The Feds.

That could lead to a saucy wench overload

Long.

I made the mistake of taking 290-610-288.  Should have forked over the ducats for the Sam Houston because 288 went down to one lane and it took me an extra 25 minutes or so to get through the bottle neck.

I just don't go very far from home. That's my solution to Houston's traffic.

I get stuck driving downtown multiple times a week for my work to pick up plans, so I don't really have a choice. The good thing is they pay me back for my tolls and give me .485 cents a mile (about 3x what i pay for gas), plus hourly wages.
