Howdy from Wyoming,  Just wanted to introduce myself.  I am Brad and I am a service tech.  Hopefully in this forum I can get some pointers and also help everyone else with my knowledge base.

Up until yesterday I had never used Vista either.  Company gave me a new laptop with guess what?  Vista business installed.

Today hasn't went well.

I am on vista for 3 months now. The first month was the hardest but now I prefer it above XP. There's hope Socrates.

I'll switch to Vista when it's no longer incomplete. Saying you shipped a "complete" product and then requiring 7gigs for the SP1 doesn't sound very complete to me.  :roll:

Hell you have to have a gig of ram just to run it.

But I did get my printer functional today.  Monday I'll see what else doesn't work.

Ha! And i was hoping the SP1 would decrease the bloatware...

I really had problems with Vista, so much so that i've come to downgrade to XP on some laptops that were only sold with Vista.

Vista will probably be an ok OS when the processors will reach frequencies around 10 GHz and there would be more than 8 GB RAM in a standard system, but of course by then there will be a new and bloatier MS OS, and we'll compare that one with the old and fast Vista.

Who said that "Software gets slower faster than hardware gets faster"?

dmw.exe, the program that makes all those cool Windows Aero effects in Vista, takes up about 50 - 70 k of my memory. It has my little blinking orange light working overtime. You can fix that by changing the theme though. The other thing I've had trouble with is I have to convince Vista to restart windows explorer beacuse my display drivers or something in that area have troubles sometimes.

After learning about it in my systems class, I might be inclined to install Linux Fedora on a desktop. However, Vista was already on my laptop and that's the only computer I have so I have to work with it.

I wouldn't recommend Fedora for a desktop, but that's more from "ideological" reasons. Try dual boot on the laptop, see how it works.
