Sounds like an idiot to me. The operator was right, he should have never gone into that house. Just my NSHO.

You mean out of? (he was in his house; went outside and shot them)
I pretty much agree. I don't believe he was afraid for his life, and I don't believe he had any real justification for going outside. He says it was to get a better description. I don't believe that either.
I believe he was eager to bag a couple of (safely obvious) criminals, and knew if he waited for the police to arrive; his chance would be gone.

I know the Cowboys were thinking about trading for him if Glenn wouldn't sign a reduced contract.  He was a decent player, but is getting up there in age, but even in his prime I would never describe him as heroic.  I'm not sure I would call him a criminal either, even though he basically stole his money from the Falcons.  So like most things, this falls somewhere in the middle.

Cherubim is plural; Genesis 3:24 specifies one flaming sword. Presumably flaming swords were in short supply."

I listened to the 911 tape and he's no hero. He's not really a criminal either but no hero.

He should have listened to the operator and stayed inside. he said repeatedly that he wasn't going to let them get away. he even pumped his shot gun while on the phone, confirmed the operator heard it then said he was going outside to stop them. he set the phone down and you hear shots a few seconds later.

it's tricky but he should have been charged with SOMETHING and not just let off the hook 100%.

He should be charged with manslaughter at least. Unless tresspassing now gives you the right to blow some brains, than that would be awesome because the neighbors kids' are always in my yard.

In Texas, you can blast on trespassers.  It is actually legal to blast on any fool in the commission of a felony.

From what I understand, you can open fire on a neighbor's dog here in Pennsylvania if it goes onto your property.

I think I need to move to Texas.

I think this guy is a criminal in that he actively pursued two individuals who were posing no physical threat to him, and shot them. I see no justification in it whatsoever. By all means, if they had just murdered his wife, I'd be calling this guy a hero. But death is not a justifiable penalty for theft.
