So here's a new rule: You're allowed to create one spam thread for every 5000 post (I just noticed I was at 5009 lol!))

So here's my spam thread:

If there's online poker players here, I just wanted to mention that I run multiple gambling wesbites and I've recently started to run regular promotions (freerolls, money added private tournaments, etc). I also have a monthly newsletter which provides info on the monthly promotions (including freeroll passwords). you can subscribe to this free newsletter by pointing your browser to:

www dot mypokercorner dot com/newsletter-signup/ (include the trailing slash)

Also, I am currenlty in negotiations with some partners and poker rooms to come up with a mega promotion that will take place before christmas (maybe even in Novemember if I can wrap things up). My intent is to offer a *private* tournament with $10,000 in added money. So if we have 200 players with a $20 buy-in for instance, then the total prize poll would be $14000. The format of this tournament is still being worked out, but if you sign up to my poker newsletter, you'll get the updates by e-mail :)

Online gambling is illegal in Washington state. Damnable left wing blues running everything.

Isn't it illegal everywhere?  Hey Judgie, I don't know how to play online poker with real money.  I've tried.  Maybe not very hard, but it's clear to me that an idiot can't do it.

Online poker is not illegal everywhere. :)

There's a lot of confusion about it's legality in the US (and a lot of wrong information). First, let me say that to my knowledge, there are no federal laws that specificlaly state that playing online poker is not legal. However, there are state laws that do prohibit it. (13 or so states have such laws).

The introduction of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) has brough even more confusion to the question so allow me to clarify a few points:
  • The UIGEA does not render online gambling illegal, rather it reinforces OTHER laws that make certain forms of online gambling illegal. The problem is that it is unclear specifically if online poker is included in those other laws, because it's not directly referenced. These other laws typically target gambling operators, and not the players. The UIGEA also does not target players, but rather operators and financial institutions.
  • UIGEA does not mention poker specifically

The UIGEA prohibits businesses from receiving deposits for the purpose of unlawful online gambling. The question then becoems "what is *unlawful* online gambling"? And to find that out, you have to look at other laws. For instance, the 1961 Wire Act makes it illegal to operate an online sports-betting business (but not to be a customer).

This situation sort of reminds me of the tabaco law the Candian province where I reside, where it is illegal to purchase cigarettes until you are of the age of 19, but it is legal to smoke them if you are 16 or older. So yes, laws can be idiotic and confusing. And when there is too much confusion (and the online poker question takes the cake here), then you have to rely on interpretation and precedents of court rulings. And since no US citizen has even been charged, trialed or convicted of a crime for playing poker online (yet there's hundred;s of thousands of you who do play online), I have to assume it's quite safe to enjoy online gambling for US players.

Interestingly enough, one particular poker room has changed the rules of how they run online poker games in order to present it not as a game of chance, but as a game of skill. The idea that they came up with is to run multi-table texas hold'em tournaments where each hand dealt is the same for every table. So if you're in seat 6 of table 12, everyone who's in seat 6 from all the other tables will get the same cards than you. The idea is to outperform players at the toher tables who are in your seat, and not necessarily to beat the opponents at your own table. (altough in the end, you'll have to beat them to outperform your *real* opponents at the other tables).

Anyway, I leave you with this interesting related video:

Are you asking about deposit methods? Or was just just a statement that people keep taking your money and it sucks?

The options vary depending on the room, but generally speaking, these are your options:

Large Cash Transfer Poker Deposits With Moneygram and Western Union
Pre-Paid And Bank Visa Cards
Electronic Wallets Poker Deposits
E-Checks For PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker

More info on these:

#1 Transactions Via Cash Transfer

Fast and easy method for large poker deposit (several $100) consider poker cash transfer via Moneygram or Western Union. You'll probably need to contact the poker room to make arrangements (The room will send you their account info so you can make the transfer). Then you can make a transaction from an outlets for one of these services.
Fees are about $10 for a 1K transfer, which is pretty cheap.

#2  Pre-Paid Visa

These are available country-wide at convenience stores (ie Walgrens), Supermarkets (ie Safeway / Wal-Mart) and Gas Stations. There are many brands available and 2 distinct types. The first are known as Visa Gift Cards, poker deposits of fixed amounts are fine with these. The second type can be reloaded and offer more flexibility. Some brands require registration of the cards online. The actual brands that work online change all the time. Popular pre-paid via cards for online poker deposits include ‘All Access Visa’, ‘Gift2Go’ and ‘ICE Cards’.

#3 Electronic Wallets / Virtual Visa

While neteller and others have left the US market, others have taken their place. You could use Pic-club, eWallet Express, Fonelinx (pre-paid phone card poker deposit method) and Eco-Card. Check with the room to see which ones they accept first.

#4 – eChecks

Probably the easiest deposit method of all and available at the two largest online poker sites (Poker Stars and Full Tilt). eChecks work exactly the same as a paper check. You just fill in the blanks using the info on your own checks. Wait a few days for the transaction to clear and start playing. There may be an initial setup requirement (froms to fill, copies of your ID). Check with the room.
