Dutch geek joins the madness
« on: June 02, 2009, 07:06:02 AM »

Hi all,

I'm known for rambling on and not making an awful lot of sense, so I've decided to introduce myself, bullet-style, in no particular order:

  • I am a web developer: a paper clip, a ballpoint pen and some rubber bands and I'm off to save the web.
  • I am from The Netherlands, Europe. My goal/dream within the next few years is to move Down Under.
  • I seem to be getting older. I am nearing the end of my twenties and sometimes I need a nap early in the evening. I also ponder on about life (my life in particular) and the meaning of it all. I cry myself to sleep, alone.
  • I love all things fast, with a particular soft spot for Formula 1 racing. Must be something primordial. Please don't step between me and my TV when the race is on.
  • I also like all things beautiful. I may not be much of an artist, photographer, writer, designer, film maker, actor or musician, but I very much enjoy, collect & respect their best work. That, and furry animals. And women. I like those too.
  • I am a sucker for techno-nosehair clippers. I lie to myself that I need and use every one of them, even those I've bought & hidden from view since.
  • I consider my 80 GB iPod Classic to be one of the finest inventions every made. I have music for every mood swing. Yes, even an impressive Tori Amos collection.
  • I find it very relaxing to get all worked up over a nice shooter or racing game on my Xbox 360. It's merely a hobby for me though, not a life style. Yet.
  • Microsoft software usually does not like me. I try to be nice, I really do, but I have anger management issues over too much time and work lost over the years. One of these days I am just going to lose it. Yet I persist. Interesting.
  • I am not geeky enough to appreciate Linux. I tried and failed. Sorry. I'll bash that sudo chown some other time. Maybe a Mac instead?

That's all I can think of for now. Looking forward to getting to know other geeks. Be gentle, I've struggled for years with my inner geekiness  8-)

What is your favourite ice cream?

What is your favourite pizza topping?

What do you like to do with friends?

Hi Probie, nice to meet you too. Cute avatar!

What is your favourite ice cream?
Ohh, I'd have to say a white chocolate Magnum. I don't eat a lot of ice cream though.

What is your favourite pizza topping?
Me likes pizza! Any kind of meat will do, preferably BBQ chicken. Don't care much for fish but I am always in for crazy combinations. Like broccoli & cheese. Surprisingly good...

What do you like to do with friends?
I like having them over, stuffing them full of snacks and just talk about stuff. And I am currently trying to coax a friend of mine to go on a camping trip to Norway next year. We've settled on a hiking trip to Germany so far.

Do feel free to share any Freudian insights you might have. I forgot to mention that I take an interest in psychology as well ;)

thank you, it would seem I am becoming more eccentric in my old age.  :-)

Magnums are good! But I like Ben and Jerry's phish food the best.

I'm very supportive of the broccoli choice, its extremely good for you.

I went camping two weeks ago; the weather in the UK is exceptionally lovely at the moment, perfect for sleeping under the stars, jumping in lakes and BBQ food.

I don't have any clear conclusions yet, but I'll be keeping my beady little eyes on you! :P

Camping in the UK? Sunshine?? Not the most obvious association by any means! Let me know if it sticks, I'll make sure to give it a try some day.

Tell me, is it really obvious that I am a geek, having googled Ben & Jerry's Phish Food? Sounds delicious. I happened to read something about it supporting the Lake Champlain restoration efforts. I was there on a road trip a few months ago. Odd coincidence? I think not! I have yet to figure out how prominent your part is in my latest conspiracy theory. Rest assured, I will find out  :-D

See you around

Haha maybe you are, but you're also a great bunch of people living in a wonderful country. I've never felt so at home as I did in your country. To me, that means something.

As a matter of principle while reading through the threads, I will smite anyone who is at 0 just because.  I don't remember if I smited you though.

I had zero smites for a really long time.  Then all of a sudden I had four.  I didn't ask who did it because that's a good way to get more smites.  I'm sure I'll get more now too.

Hi there!
From which part of The Netherlands are you? I'm from Spain but I went as an Erasmus student to Utrecht past year and I absolutely loved it. I'm going to visit some friends in there next week.
I'm new around here as well but I haven't introduce myself yet (Ops).
Sorry in advance for my english grammar mistakes but now that I'm back in South Spain I'm getting to forget how to speak english in a proper way...

Nice to meet you all, btw!
See you around!

Hey Semiotica,

Welcome! It's funny isn't it, you are in sunny Spain and I'm stuck in this overcrowded hole that you seem to enjoy. Apart from the language (I've tried Spanish... I was kindly asked to make myself dissapear from future classes), I think I'd much prefer your country :)

Glad you had a good time though! I'm from Noord-Brabant in the south.
