Flamer's Corner / Manners, or I'm overreacting
« on: September 24, 2007, 02:11:04 PM »
A little while ago I went to a small city with a couple of friends.  All parking in this town is metered, and the first parking garage cost $1.50.  Neither friend offered to pay or put a quarter in, nothing.  I figured, ok, maybe at the next one.  The next place we went to (not within walking distance of the first, thus switching garages) cost $4.  I am currently not working and had saved my money for the purchases I had made that day, and with all the driving around I ended up needing to get gas ($30 even).  Now that I can understand them not wanting or feeling like they should put in any money because I started out the day with under 1/2 a tank.

We are all students, so I get that money is tight, but they volunteered to come along.  I might have refused their money, but the point is to offer to help pay, no?  That's how I was raised.  Your ass sat in the car, you help pay, or at the very least make the offer to do so.  I offer to help pay for gas, parking meters, etc every time I am a passenger.  I'd feel guilty if I didn't.

Now, I am not about to go back and ask them to pay up.  I do not feel right asking people for money in vague circumstances.  Here is my question:  Am I overreacting?  Is the person driving solely responsible for all costs of said trip?  Even if they are minimal?

Flamer's Corner / You know what really grinds my gears?
« on: February 11, 2007, 11:22:03 PM »
When people of any age think it's alright to say whatever the frak pops into their head.  In the middle of class.  While someone else was talking. AND THEN you decide that because of your age it's ok and use that as the reasoning behind your verbal attack on the class and then have the gall to complain about ageism.  That really grinds my gears.

And no, it wasn't the prof it was a student in a grad program.

Ahhhh, I feel like such a n00b. Please don't hate me for asking this.

I looked through the more recent threads but didn't find an answer.  I've been trying out different p2p software and nothing seems to get past my school's firewall.  I was wondering if anyone new of software for Mac that could work with that or else a general website...I know this all sounds kinda dumb, but downloading things is not something I know a lot about.  I'm mostly looking for a place to find tv shows online (not from the major networks--we're talking Buffy eps and the like).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Entertainment / Movie time!
« on: October 11, 2006, 07:55:56 PM »
Here's a list of some of the movies I'd like to see coming out in the next couple months...and July.

Add on to the list, take away, etc!

The Nightmare Before Christmas  (again!  though what's this I hear about Fall Out Boy on the new soundtrack?  Don't get me wrong, I actually like FOB, but....huh?)
Running With Scissors (when out on DVD because I don't think I want to spend $8.50 on it)
Pan's Labyrinth
Marie Antoinette (because we're all allowed a guilty pleasure)
Volver
Stranger Than Fiction (if someone brings up this movie and replaces "Than" with "Then", I *will* hurt them)
and....because I'm a huge Stupid Sexy Flanders fan for no good g.d. reason....Stupid Sexy Flanders and the Order of the Phoenix

Feel free to disparage, agree, etc....and go!

New Geeks on the Block / Happy Wednesday!
« on: October 11, 2006, 05:17:12 PM »
Hey guys, my name isn't Anyanka and I am a 22 year old Grad Student.  I was raised on Star Trek: TNG and am a huge Lord of the Rings and Stupid Sexy Flanders fan, among other fandoms.  I used to be on a LotR forum but thought I might spread out a bit and try something a little less topic-specific.

I hope everyone's week is going well...new LOST tonight!!!
