Dude, no clue. I'd have to see a picture of what you're talking about before I could even register a real opinion- it sounds a little unstable, but i guess if it's put together in a certain way it's okay?

Also, your signature quote from Clutch made me LOL. Not a lot of people know what 10001110101 comes from.

Homework Help / Re: Solution needed, any idea's welcome :)
« on: August 27, 2009, 09:37:38 AM »
This thread is made of funny and irony. And a little gall- just think: you go to a random group of strangers and skip introducing yourself or making any kind of relationships, then immediately pose a problem and expect them to give you a highly intelligent and possibly technical recommendation without any kind of harassment, and then you go away satisfied? I don't think you have a very good grasp of human social dynamics, my uber friend.

You're not a moron- your first post makes that evident. Try doing some research and finding your own answers- and if you just want to have some friendly geeky conversations here, make an intro thread and tell us a little about yourself that doesn't immediately put us under the pressure of finding an answer to whatever question it is your boss pays you to find on your own. Either that or offer to pay us to give you an answer- that is how capitalism works, after all.

Edit: also, you defy your title's premise with your responses- you did say "any idea's welcome :)", you did not limit which ideas would be welcome by stating "any good idea's welcome :)" or even "any relevant idea's welcome :)". You haven't really welcomed any of the ideas posed. Jerk. :-P

Flamer's Corner / Re: "Nice guy" alarm clocks. Feh.
« on: August 26, 2009, 06:49:07 PM »
I've been using a regular alarm clock tuned to my NPR station (I like Morning Edition), then just turned up too loud for me to ignore. It still takes a few (sometimes 10) minutes for me to wake up, but it's not stuff I want to turn off, so I generally don't snooze much.

Whatever! Also, did you guys know that the forum actually has a phone compatibility mode? I'm using WinMo 6 to type this reply atm. Maybe I'm the only one who's impressed, but I didn't expect that.

Okay, fine. But if we're going to have "Muslim Dress Swimming Hour", I insist on having "Free Strippers Skinny Dipping Hour" too. It's only fair.

For God's sake, why? Ask any of the people who actually used punch cards to program computers and see if they miss it. You're alive in the middle of the transition of programming from lengthy codes & syntax to English language, so simple even a child can program a computer. I personally can't wait to see what's next.

Wait, you're not talking about Red Dwarf, are you?

Also, I'm a fan of this for breakfast, although I don't get it very often since my girlfriend doesn't care for it. I think she's weird.

Oh, hell, we can give him a chance, right guys? He might have just made a simple blunder in his first post and be too ashamed/machismo to apologize properly for it. He could just as easily be a swell guy who's too young to know any better- we've all been there, or at least I know I have.

Welcome, Captain Awesome. Please brush your shoes off on the mat, and obey the HypnoToad. Then say something redeeming and/or interesting so these guys see that I'm right and you don't have to be banned.

Yeah, I can't remember being much of a fan of squirrelmasta, though I'm sure things have changed. Here's to new beginnings, right?

Yep. Mine are better though, mine light up when you plug them into the wall, as opposed to the old battery powered type.

So I figured since I've been AWOL for ages, I'd reintroduce myself for the benefit of people who joined since I was last active.

Hi. I'm Phyre, otherwise known as Matt. I'm from HN, and I know Detta personally. I like cheesecake and viognier, not necessarily simultaneously. I enjoyed the latest Star Trek movie, but I've always been a fan, so my opinion shouldn't count. I like kayaking, swimming, reading, model making, computer science, and cooking breakfast. I'm a professional mechanic, so don't mind me if I only show up on the weekends- I work like a bitch during the week and have little time online.

I'm a nice guy. If you're nice too, we'll have plenty of fun together.

I'm just flashing my creds so people who don't know me don't think I'm some random n00b. Who were you over there, Novice?

Well fuck you then.

Really, what the hell, man? You're completely new here and the first impression you decide to make is a bad one, picking on the theme we use here, which is the least possible denominator that keeps us all coming back here? Give compliments when introducing yourself to new people, it's just good manners.

Also, I used to insult my boss by calling him "Captain Awesome" behind his back. He was neither.

Y'know what, I'm glad I clicked the link that brought me back by this way tonight, but it's getting damn late and I'm going to bed.

Thought you should know.

Also, I don't know if anyone really cares about the comparison between Canadian and US health care systems, but Wikipedia has an article on the topic at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_and_American_health_care_systems_compared

"I do not think that word means what you think it means"... but I digress.

Question 2 assumes that the first question results in an answer that results in increased spending. Question 1 is a good question, and makes a good point that we should be getting more for our money right now- we really ought to be allocating our resources better. If someone can answer Question 1 in a way that doesn't increase our spending, then Question 2 is moot.

I like Question 3.

I don't get Question 4- this is probably because I personally have no real bias in the abortion debate. Abortions being performed now are paid for just fine in the existing system- I see no need to have taxpayers paying for them, but I also don't see why this needs to be a centerpoint argument in a much larger debate. I guess I feel like Question 4 has less to do with healthcare and more to do with abortion, which is a completely different problem, IMO.

I also like Question 5. What's "for the people, by the people" mean if you're not in the same boat as all the rest of us?

I've got nothing on questions 6 or 7. Not that I can't have an opinion, but I haven't done the research to talk about it and I won't speak out of turn.

8 makes a good point. Government does not have a reputation for being the most effective manager of any given system, much less the existing healthcare programs. This shouldn't be an argument for doing nothing, though. There are legitimate problems with our system that need remedies.

Number 9 assumes, again, that a solution involves spending more money. I want to see another solution.

Which is where Tom comes in with Question 10. I've felt for a few months that we've rushed headlong into this healthcare debacle, and I can't help but think that anything with that much impetus is bound to crash badly. I don't mean that I'm against this healthcare bill, I mean that our elected officials should have taken more time to study the issue and come up with something that really works, not just for today, but for the next 20, 40, 60 years. Because I'm not looking forward to reaching my golden age at a time when you have to threaten your doctor with a spear to get a boil looked at because the US lost the Great Healthcare War of 2031.

Also, I think it's a little funny that most Senators go by "Senator" but in the middle of a healthcare debate Tom Coburn's senatorial website calls him "Dr. Coburn". Maybe that's normal, for a doctor turned politician, but it doesn't hurt him politically, either.

Anarchy / Re: Women/Sex..
« on: September 14, 2006, 06:26:16 PM »
The lines between domination and degradation are sometimes hard to approach. I've had a partner who really enjoyed pain during intercourse, of varying types, and really liked roleplaying dominant/submissive roles- things I had a hard time with in the beginning. I learned better over time, and I learned where the line was between hurtful pain and pleasurable pain. The same sort of thing can be said about the "insults" espoused by the thread creator. I think he's mistaking his "insulting" behavior, and how it's interpreted- some women enjoy being around very assertive/arrogant men, and I can see how certain insults can play into this sort of attraction. It's no mistake to be confident around a woman, if you're sure of yourself, then you help prove to her that she can be sure of you as well. But intentionally insulting a woman can only lead to the eventual degradation of your relationship, and is therefore a waste of time. Be open, be honest, be confident, and be a gentleman.

I have one like that too, but I find that I tend to carry the smaller one that has the USB drive on it more often, because it takes up a bit less pocket space.  I do keep the other one handy though.  It's normal home is in my satchel that gets carted to and from work.
I find it actually very useful at work- it saves me trips back and forth to the toolbox for various tools when I've got it.
