Title: Geek Classification
Post by: Twizted on November 20, 2007, 11:43:13 PM
Okay. We all know we are nerds, in some form. Just what form is it that we take? I understand that a vast majority of you are the "Computer Nerd" classification. But just for my amusement, vote.

I can't select only one of those.  I'm a math geek, a computer geek, a history geek, a political geek, a physics geek, a music geek, a movie geek, a sci-fi geek, and an RPG gamer geek.

You don't even have all of those categories.

And I don't think I'm the only one that will be pointing that out here.  :)

And, for the record, I am in no way, shape, or form a "nerd" of any kind.  A couple of people here who have met me IRL can attest to that.

I've always thought of labels as being self-limiting by nature.

Great, another missing choice.

Hi there people... just thot id say that this forum is kinda pointless as it well... doesn’t even know what it is... GEEK? wot is geek? General Electrical Engineering Knowledge!!!!!! Geeks and nerds are different. Geeks are computer and electrical based and nerds are like maths and physics, etc. just thot id put my point across as this really annoys me when ppl say they are a computer nerd or a math geek. coz it makes no sense when you use the actual meaning of the word geek... rant over thank you and please dnt call urself that again! :@

I don't know, but it's holding paintbrushes and looks vaguely diseased or perhaps disordered...not quite sure what to make of it.

I'm one of those geeks that fits into multiple categories, but I know more about some than others.
hehe, the geek geek is kind of funny. that's random...haha.
and...not to be perfectly typical or anything but I think there should be a band geek on that list.  :-)

edit: yayyyy i'm an idiot because there already was a band geek on that list! feel free to throw rocks and or green beans at me.

Question one:
If I'm a jack-of-everything-except-technology can I still select 'Jack of all Trades', or should I stick with 'Other'?.

Question two:
Is it safe to call a theologian a geek? I always figured several different god-like entities, or entities with god-like qualities, might strike you down for labeling a theologian as anything but a theologian.

I think I might fail a little in the geek category, then. I'm neither good with computers or science, I failed all math classes in school, and while I dabble a bit in theology, history, and other similar types of things, I'm not exactly a walking encyclopedia.

I guess I'm just a generic geek. I like obsessing over.. everything, really, I'm interested in. I read entirely too much. I love anything fantasy and would probably do the LARP thing if it meant I didn't have to deal with lisping, overweight teenage girls who think LARP is as thuper-cool as cosplaying as Inyasha. I dabble a bit in video games.. mostly play World of Warcraft, and will probably go with the flow and play whatever new MMO takes over next.

Not to say I'm not interested in science, computers, history, theology, and everything else- I most certainly am, and very enthusiastic about it all.
I'm just lazy.

If by Cosby-show-fanfic you mean obnoxious, giggling, teenybop girls who live and breathe manga and anime, then yes.

I would have classified myself as a Closet Geek for the longest time.  Hiding my secret shame of being an avid video and table-top RPG gamer.  I loved to play both, and quite frequently I might add, but I hid that fact from many of my non-geek friends.  Now... I'm out of the geek closet and proudly proclaiming myself a geek to the world.  I guess you could classify me as a Born Again Geek!  LOL... I still watch football, play fantasy sports, go to bars and pool halls when I get the occasional chance... but now I openly talk about my geekyness in public.

It feels good to be out of the geek closet... what a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders!

Did you just come out of the cloest on an internet-based forum? If so, I think you just made history.

I'm totally a Spammer (http://www.zombo.com):

Comfy in Khaki or Camo.
White Collar by day, Blue Collar by night (and weekends!).

Yes, I've used my Blackberry to google the fishing regulations from my boat to check whether or not my fish was legal to keep.   :-D

Jack of all trades.  Into everything, but not an expert in anything.  Basically I fail a little less than most.
