I spent around eight hours learning to draw sharks so I can move on to half-shark half Nazis.

Fucking....what?

Yeah there was actually a Chick tract I had  a while ago where Bob the crusader shows the heathens how the Vatican has everyone's name on file in a huge computer and reveals the hidden truth behind Freemasonry (wow, he beat Dan Brown to the punch by a decade at least!)

Nah, there's probably some obscure Bible quote forbidding hats hidden alongside those ones that told him about the conspiracy that the Catholic Church has with the Masons to sell souls in bulk to Satan or whatever that old thing was about how the Vatican has a computer with everyone's name in it.

+1 for wearing a pager. Homeboy's kickin' it old school.

Thanks, the management at work tried to get me to trade it in to get SMS messaging on a cell phone but I declined on the grounds that it would cost my Big Shot points big time. It's a good old fashioned beast too, large enough to use as a close-range melee weapon and probably emits enough radiation to sterilize me inside the week.

Technically the rules say not to post on threads that have gone a month without posts, which this one has not. However, I realize my error and do apologise for it.

Hellboy's awesome and so are the Alan Moore books I've read (V, Watchmen, and LXG). Poor Alan Moore...his adaptations are always a lot different than the books, and I hope to whatever gods give half a shit that they never make that Watchmen movie they've been talking about.

Still, I thought that the V for Vendetta movie kicked ass, and that the changes made were just a conversion to the new medium. I treated it as a wholly seperate thing from the book, but based on similar themes. That being said, a comic virgin that I brought with me to watch came out saying he wanted to borrow my copy, so it was a good experience.

The last fiction book that I read would have to be Peter Benchley's (the Jaws guy with the shark fixation) 'White Shark' which is about a half-Nazi half-shark thing.

Well I remember when everyone thought it was over last year and it wasn't THAT big of a shock. Sure it kicks ass, but ten years isn't bad at all (just think of how much better X-Files would have been if they'd just cut it out when Mulder left?). I mean, the 'jump the shark' moments are really starting to pile up for SG-1...oh well, it had to end sometime.

At least it hasn't dragged on and on and on with no new ideas like that other Star show I recall...

I like A-Team, Batman, Arrested Development, Stargate, Kids in the Hall,  Macgyver, Inspector nosehair clipper, South Park, Supernatural, The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, and Mythbusters, in no particular order.

That being said, I don't really watch that much TV...I generally get the urge to watch one of them and download a few episodes, then I'm done. Just another way that the Interweb has improved my life.

On a related note, wasn't it Dubya himself who said 'there should be limits on freedom'?

Political Opinions / Re: Cloning
« on: August 28, 2006, 01:58:04 PM »
I don't understand why this is that big a deal. If cloning works properly, a person born in a lab would be indistinguishable from a person pumped out in a hospital. It actually looks like a damn inefficient process to me, considering that we have a system that works well already. I mean, it was enormously expensive to duplicate one sheep, and even that didnt't work properly, and it will take a lot of money and time to improve the system to the point where it would be worthwhile.

What would cloning (human that is) even be good for? Soldiers? It would take a long time to grow and train them all, and what would be gained anyway? Not a lot, by my thinking.

Personally, I prefer good old fashioned killer robots and death rays in a doomsday plan.

Harper is creepy as hell. Every time I see him on TV I think of that one frame of Dark Knight Strikes Again where the Question exposes the President for being a hologram. I mean, he's the bloody Conservative archetype...he's just too perfectly set up to appeal to that crowd. He's quiet, has a weird ass half-smile, and is a stereotypical family man. Not to mention the fact that his dead eyes creep the hell out of me.

I have no...fucking...idea...

There are a few key points there where I just paused because it was so damn stupid (that and I was hoping she'd somehow give herself asthma yelling like that). My right ear hurt for the rest of the night...

I wish I had a Senator to bitch to about this, because it sucks to not really have a say in Net Neutrality besides writing to the ISPs in Canada.

Oh well...I think I may move to the States soon because up here there's not a lot to complain about, and let's face it, your politics are a hell of a lot more interesting. Stephen Harper is basically a robot on TV, but Bush is known worldwide as an enormous source of amusement for people in many different countries (the ones he hasn't detected WMDs in anyway).

I work at a call center (we do deaf-relay, people ordering crap off the tv, paging, that sort of thing) and I get some of the most mind-numbingly retarded people ever to leave the ocean...by the end of most days the sheer stupidity I've been exposed to is almost enough to make me want to just...

but I digress, here's my favourite of the day:

One company we work for is a certain well-known correspondance college. We only handle the after hours line and only really send out these free information packages. We aren't located in the school (we're not even in the same COUNTRY for fuck's sake), but some people just plain don't understand that, as was the case with this customer.

She called up and I answered with the standard answer phrase "Thank you for calling [school's name], would you like to order a free information package?".

Now, if she said anything other than 'yes', I'd have just said I'm sorry but we're the after hours line, please call back during regular hours...but I didn't even get that far.

Caller: No I certainly would NOT like a free information package!
Me: I see m'am, unfortunately we are the-
Caller: You're the after hours line, right?!
Me: Yes m'am, I would have to ad-
Caller: Now you just wait ONE MINUTE!
Me: I'm sorry-
Caller: Oh you BETTER BE SORRY! I've called four times now [clearly my colleagues in the same ROOM took these calls] and I can't get a straight answer!
Me: If I could please-
Caller: I AM STILL SPEAKING! The last operator I got said she was from fucking CANADA! SINCE WHEN WAS CANADA A PART OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA???
Me: [I paused for a moment, partly to see if she was done, and partly to wonder what the fuck that has to do with anything] Well I think they may have been the same up until 1776 or something like-
Caller: I ORDERED A PACKAGE SIX MONTHS AGO FOR MY DAUGHTER BECAUSE SHE DROPPED OUT OF SCHOOL AND IT STILL HASN'T ARRIVED! NOW YOU'RE GOING TO GET ME SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS JACK SHIT ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE SELLING, AND YOU'RE GOING TO DO IT NOW!
Me: Actually m'am, the school is closed now.
Caller: I DON'T CARE IF THE SCHOOL IS CLOSED! YOU GET ME SOMEONE WHO KNOWS!
Me: Nobody here knows any more than I do...
Caller: Well buddy boy, I'm going to keep calling til the cows come home! I CAN CALL ALL NIGHT!

Now, consider the following. Firstly, calling all night won't help anything at all, as I (and presumably a few people before me) have pointed out to this stupid bitch. Secondly, where did people get the idea that by screaming at someone who is basically a paid answering machine they could get what they wanted? If I want to return shit to walmart, I can't just head out at two am and scream at the glass til someone comes over...I don't know why some people think that the phone is any different.

Me: Now wait one moment m'am...would you like me to get my supervisor?
Caller: WELL NO SHIT, I'VE BEEN CALLING ALL-[blah blah blah for about ten minutes]
Me: Certainly m'am, I'll just put you on hold-
Caller: YOU'RE GOING TO HANG UP!
Me: I promise I won't.
Caller: ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN?!
*dead air*
Caller: DO YOU BELIEVE THAT OUR LORD AND GOD JESUS CHRIST CAME TO EARTH TO DIE FOR OUR SINS?!
Me: errmm...sure m'am.
Caller: BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T I DON'T WANT YOUR PROMISE-

I put her on hold, and got the supervisor over who listened without saying a word for around twenty minutes, then said the same thing I had and hung up.
