It's a bit Geeky
« on: November 13, 2007, 12:52:42 PM »

Hi to all.

I'm new here, just thought I'd say hello, I'm still at work, though I don't need to be, I could go home, I could goto the pub, but instead I'm here waiting for others to finish their daily tasks so we can all goto the pub for a meal on the company (it's cheeper that way)

I'm the IT Manager for a programming company, I know nothing about the program we write, neither do I wish to, I am here to keep the systems running. it's good fun with Sun box's IBM AIX systems, variouse windows systems, and then a fair number (and rising) Linux boxes. don't worry, i'm not one of these people that hates MS, I just prefer Open Source (free to you and me) software on my desk at the moment I have 3 desktop systems, a server (tower) and 2 laptops.

I've recently found out that I know windows to the extent of not needing to read what it says to know what's going on, our company is owned by Danish people, and we have a couple of french people working here too, it doesn't matter what issue they run into, or what error message they get on the screen, I know why it's there and what its saying, even though I can not read it. Maybe this is a good thing.

I am however one of these people that thinks a GUI Operating system is purely there to arrange console windows easily. I'm not a fan of GUI, and prefer to dive into configuration files with VI than open a GUI that will do it for me.

well, I guess i'm more bored than I thought, and hungry..... when will they be finished....

A very well written intro thread, maybe for once we can honor such behaviour with taking away "annoying".

I haven't been weaning off the Microteat long enough to survive with GUI yet, but I someday hope to shun this horrid world of images and delve deep into the comforting textual black and white sea below.

Welcome, new one.
