Cats and Dogs
« on: December 11, 2007, 12:45:15 PM »

I think my state's famous once-a-year snow storm came a bit early this year. It's been raining here in the Kansas area for the last 48 hours or so. Wichita State keeps cancelling finals because of 'incliment weather', even though the rain has yet to freeze. I'm a bit torn because I could always use more study time for my finals, but I hate the fact that my university isn't smart enough to see that rain + 34 degree F does not equal ice. Also, if it did start to ice over, the RWD 5.0 GT mustang won't fair too well.

My question being . . .  How's the weather?

Right now it's 19F here, which is pretty warm compared to the past couple of weeks or so.  Up until yesterday we've been at single-digit temperatures and below 0F at night.

I guess I should be grateful Kansas hasn't pulled its Gotcha! weather and hit us with negative temperatures yet.

We had about 20 inches of snow not long ago. It was all grass before that.

6 inches of snow on it's way here. This will be the first "significant" snow fall since I've been out here in PA. It should be interesting since I live on a big ass hill.

Got these pics off GoogleEarth; and they aren't very recent.
The first one is a closer-up of a bridge across part of an inlet of Lake Lanier; back when it was an inlet. You can see the water on both sides of the bridge.
The second pic is zoomed back out a bit; and for comparison - almost all the water you see is nearly gone now. Just a river where the big water was (in the picture); up around that bridge is like a pasture now, grassed over weeding up. All those boat docks sitting on the ground out in a field looks strange.

Dude, PA snow ain't nothing to fuck with. I've been in my place for a year, and I've seen 3 accidents (plus one shooting, but that doesn't count towards weather). When shit ices, it ices. This weekend will be fun.

Dunno exactly what PA is, but if it's south of Canada that's nothing (and I'm sticking to it until any Alaskans in the audience speak up).

Great, it's been snowing since morning with no sigh that's gonna stop; already there is more than 10 cm of snow. Tomorrow the traffic will be hellish because 1)the authorities here are always surprised that it snows in wintertime, 2) the snow-removing machines (that will start to work too late anyway) will be blocked by badly parked cars and 3) everyone that has a car but usually doesn't use it will use it tomorrow, however ill-equipped it is for snow.

I usually like living in a big city, but in times like these i really hate it.

Cold?  How cold is "cold"?

It's 6.1F here right now.  Which is an improvement over what it's been lately.
