My parents are a bit on the very conservative side and have made similar statements in the past. I was always wanting to prank them by visiting one day with a very flamboyant black guy I know and introducing him as my new beau.

My parents don't really give a crap one way or another. I suspect that if I had been gay, my father probably would have had a hard time with it at first, but he would have come around sooner or later I think. My mom wouldn't have cared either way.

In that respect, I was rather lucky where my parents are concerned. I was brought up to think for myself, to respect others (no matter what color, race, faith, or whathaveyou they were), and to stick up for what I felt was right, and to stick to my guns.

My wife's parents are the same way, but if anything even more openminded and easygoing than mine are.

I think a lot of parents out there could do a lot worse than that. It saddens me to hear of and see other people raising their kids to be prejudicial and hateful and spiteful straight out of the cradle.

Sounds like something I would do were my parents not so open-minded.
On the contrary, my Mom thinks she has the best gaydar around; yet when she looked at my roommate's Queer as Folk calendar, it didn't even cross her mind. My Dad, on the other hand, saw the Will & Grace box set on his desk and got it right away...

That guy's so dense that not even light can escape.

He posts the exact same copy & paste every single day, whether it's relevent to the discussion or not. I don't think he even reads anything that anyone else posts.

I don't normally post there very often... but I was bored to tears yesterday and I figured it'd be worthwhile to go in there and slap a few of the blowhards around for a while, since they normally dominate the threads there.... in other words, I was "slumming".

They don't like being challenged much, I think.

No kidding. I had a paper route when I was 12 and since I had cash flow, I joined the Columbia House Music Club. Two of those first 10 (or whatever it was then) Lps were ABBA Albums. I developed more eclectic tastes as I grew older, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for that Swedish foursome.

However the most embarassing thing in my collection is probably that Air Supply cassette. Weird Tingly Feeling was I thinking?

I think the most embarrassing thing in my entire music collection would have to be Bon Jovi "Slippery When Wet" cassette that a clueless aunt and uncle gave me for my birthday back when that album first came out.

I bet I still have it somewhere. It's probably in good shape... I don't think it has ever been inside of a tape deck.

Being a metalhead in the mid 80's and getting a copy of any Bon Jovi album (much less one as disgustingly popular as "Slippery When Wet" was) is about as bad an insult as one can get.

Ooooooh wait a sec.... I bet I still have a Stryper cassette. "Soldiers Under Command" I think. I bought that one not really knowing what it was until I opened it and listened to it.

That's pretty embarrassing, isn't it? I mean, it's still no Air Supply, but it's Christian Metal for Pepe's sake! It doesn't get much more cheesy and pathetic than that!
