Holy first post, Batman! I happen to enjoy drinking alcohol and going to bars, but I also enjoy staying in and having a lot of "me" time. There's nothing wrong with either.
Welcome!

[09:22] <@Mr_Shifty> I'm listening to a song by Motherlovebone called "Mindshaker Meltdown" [09:23] <@Mr_Shifty> but whenever I hear it I think it sounds like they're singing "Mimeshaker Meltdown" [09:23] <@reimero> LOL [09:23] * @Mr_Shifty shakes mimes [09:29] <@Mr_Shifty> hay [09:29] <@reimero> wat [09:29] <@Mr_Shifty> when I pick this mime up, I get asked what application I should open it with [09:29] <@Mr_Shifty> "unknown mimetype" [09:30] <@BizB> because I'm on Mibbit? [09:30] * @Mr_Shifty opens it with a chainsaw, selects "always open this mimetype with this application"

[12:29] <@DG> Wow [12:29] <@DG> Bobert: In the goat show? [12:30] <Bobert> DG: We're almost certainly getting new flip phones, we should have gone with the 24gb of goat pr0n. [12:30] <Banshee> HAHAHA [12:30] <Banshee> LOPFL [12:30] <@DG> bwhahaha [12:30] <@Mr_Shifty> ROFL [12:30] <Banshee> Should we get a new quote already? [12:30] <Banshee> That needs to be the channel topic [12:30] <@Mr_Shifty> Bobert: I didn't realize that was an option when we were evaluating new phones at work.

Holy crap, was it as simple as using the Pythagorean Theorum on one of the sides of the square?

Damn, I forgot to finish this after I started it. I got stuck on substituting for y to solve for x while finding the correct equation I needed to take the derivative of to find the critical points for optimization.
It's been a long goddamn time since I took basic calculus. It's possible I was way overthinking it. I thought it was an optimization problem, but the "passes through points A, B, C, and D" threw me off. I only remember having a perimeter or something in a 3D space. I wasn't sure how quite to approach it. The constant is 6=xy, but I couldn't find the equation to optimize.
I ended up using coordinates like [0,0] for C, [0,y] for A, [x,y] for B and [x,0] for D. Then sketched out a square described by points and coordinates going clockwise from the leftmost point: A' [-x/2, y/2], B' [x/2, y+y/2], D' [x+x/2,y/2] and C' [x/2,-y/2]. The slope m of any of these lines is x/y, and the area would be expressed as A'=x^2/y^2.
But then what?
I miss being good at calculus.

I believe most of the arguments against unregulated gambling devolve on the assertion that it presents an attractive front for organized crime, and the government men with their badges and suits need to protect us against those cigar-puffing mobsters with prostitutes on their arm and wielding tommy guns.
