Here's what I don't get: in order to divest yourself of all wants on your journey towards Nirvana, don't you have to want to divest yourself of all wants on your journey towards Nirivana? Don't you have to want Nirvana? Don't you have to want not to want?

I think I'll go sit under a tree somewhere and chew on this.

Eh.  It's overrated, in my opinion.

Most people who say they like Kerouac are just afraid to say that they didn't like it, or possibly worse, didn't get it.

I dodged the bullet in college -- never took a class that required it -- but a person I know very well described him as just another white guy trying to act cool by hanging out with (and condescending to) black musicians and other exotic people.
