Political Opinions / Re: Teachers drop the Holocaust...

Not covering the crusades is one thing, because it happened a long time ago, and chances are the western view of it is biased...

"because it happened a long time ago" is no excuse. the western bias is the only thing that makes some sense, but rather than striking it from the record, why not present the differing views?

concur with the rest.

 :x

this is FUCKED. as if religion wasn't ingrained in our culture enough.

the whole PC movement has gone WAY too far. i don't think i could comment on the issue any better than Chris McGovern:
"History is not a vehicle for promoting political correctness. Children must have access to knowledge of these controversial subjects, whether palatable or unpalatable."

Yup. I'm a big fan of Atmosphere, a white (!!!) dude from Minneapolis.

Atmosphere's good... i've recently found Apathy, another white guy.

but nobody beats Immortal Technique. he's the most eloquent and articulate rapper i've heard.

Stop being so even-tempered!

and btw, what exactly do you mean?

5
Stop being so even-tempered!

FUCK YOU!

...better?

Principles that rest on assumptions are not really principles. Assumptions can rest on principles, but principles that rest on assumptions are just more assumptions, and we all know what happens when you assume.

very true. i suppose that my only principle is to not subscribe to principles. i despise ideology... i try to think things through, and not rely on ideals, since there are situations in which nearly every ideal will lead to irrationality.

Also, writing in candidates is a futile protest, unless that candidate is Peter J. Shepherd.

Please remember that in November.

i tend to hold the federal elections a bit higher than local ones, even though they're even farther from direct democracy. i suppose that's a result of my socialization. i intend on researching all of the candidates before the primaries, so i can be sure i vote for the one that personifies my beliefs the closest.

Unfortunately for a write in to even be counted they have to jump through numerous hoops in each of the 50 states.  Same goes for parties other than the duopoly.  The Greens and Libs aren't even on the ballots in all 50 states because of the bizarre requirements set up to remove any threat to said duopoly.

quite... i have a feeling that won't change until lobbying is outlawed...

If you think your vote does not matter, and you don't care to vote in accordance with your actual principles, and your vote is almost, but not quite a form of protest, and, if it were up to you, you would saddle us with hobos for mayors, then I think you suck as a voter.

my actual principles rest on the assumption that i have reasonably different choices. this is not the case. democrats and republicans both have views i agree with, yet they are embattled in party politics to such a degree that i have no way of knowing if they will stick to their principles, even if there's one that i agree with more. i'd rather cast my vote towards opening up the options more, so that there's a better chance of finding a candidate that i can mostly agree with.

Umm...go green party?
And get raped by a pig? I don't think so.

the way i see it, since the green party is the most influential (in terms of percent vote) political party next to the big two, and i hate having two parties, so why not vote for the green party? i figure they won't be able to do much legislative damage unless they get a majority; all the craziness should be taken out by checks and balances. i'd much rather have a crazy 3rd party than no 3rd party at all.

i've got the same complex as many of my peers- i know my vote doesn't count for shit. i still vote though, almost as a form of protest, although i'm not self-righteous enough to call it that. i just stay away from voting for the main parties. hell, i wrote in a mayoral vote for some hobo who campaigns while he begs...

This man, to the best of my knowledge, had zero effect on my life.  I really couldn't care less if he's feeding the leaves or the roots of the planet's vegetation.
he's caused me undue frustration and aggravation, but that's true for pat robertson too, and damn near every other (in)famous fundie, so i guess you're right, in a way.

I almost never say mean things about the recently deceased, but in this case I'm moved to shout "ABOUT FUCKING TIME".

there are no words to express my joy regarding this momentous occasion.

i'm currently working on The End of Faith by Sam Harris.

it's quite good, but i've noticed a few flaws in his logic.

The Baroque Cycle has pirates in it.

i've only read The Confusion but it was damned good. Stephenson's books haven't come close to boring me yet.

rats... i thought there might actually be a decent political discussion in this thread...

last night some drunk guy insisted on butting into my conversation with a friend at denny's. he told me he was Republican, and gave me a look like he was either being profound or derisive. i didn't know quite how to respond, so i told him he could've told me he was a Democrat and i'd give him the same quizzical look... he looked at me dumbfounded and turned back to his coffee.

how long will it take before the average person realizes that the two parties are nearly identical?

Vote Democrat- it's easier than working
Vote Republican- it's easier than thinking

edit: gah... i didn't look at the date... sorry for the necromancy.

i hate to bring up part of the 9/11 conspiracy argument, but i was intrigued by the story about the four white guys who got stopped with explosive material near the George Washington bridge... heard about it once, then it disappeared. anyone heard of follow-up to that?

Villkommen, I feel your pain

Just tell me you don't constantly utter the phrases "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?" or "No, we can't do that, there's a virus." at work and you're cool with me.

meh... i don't let the idiots win. most of them are intelligent enough to realize their ignorance and follow directions.

the people that really get to me are those that hold an IT position for a medium-sized company, yet ask me how to set a static ip address.... i've considered calling their HR manager to steal their jobs many a time.

i've come in search of boredom relief at work... perhaps i can entertain the masses with stories of idiotic tech support callers...

i work call center tech support. pity is appreciated, but unnecessary.

i'm studying engineering at the same damn community college since '03... but i just figured out the whole engineering direction.

i have "unconventional" views on most things, but from my trollings, apparently the masses share many of said views.

flame me. i dare you.... yes, i'm that bored.
