Today's a rant day, kids.  :x

My company seems so damned special sometimes.  Calls today included some of the following:

  • User who called because their printer wasn't working.  Went to her office- turned it on.  The printer then worked without a problem.
  • Another user called to complain that a program wasn't responding, and had been locked for ten minutes.  I advised her to read her emails.  The first one of the dayinformed people that the server the program was on would be down for maintenence, and not to log into the program.
  • Yet another user complained about a paper jam in her printer.  She wanted to print an address on an envelope- which she had already stuffed with a 3 page, stapled document.  She couldn't grasp why I was annoyed.
  • The most special user I have called for the hundredth time asking for a desktop printer, citing the fact that everyone else had one.  I reminded her that she has a high-speed laserjet network printer literally at arm's reach- she doesn't even have to get out of her seat.  She then said that it was nice, but a desktop printer would look much better on her desk.
  • Another user has complained that he doesn't like the layout of his PC and printer in his office.  This will be the third time since he was hired (last month) that he has demanded that the IT department reorganise his office computer and peripherals to his liking.  I sent an email this morning to complain officially that I am not a Feng Shui expert, and that this will be the last rearrangement I will be doing for the next year for this user.

Honestly, I often enjoy my occupation, but some people (especially in my current place of employment) seem so clueless they shouldn't be operating anything more advanced than a pen and paper.

...AKA Bermuda.

Long story short- I'm from Bermuda, born & raised.  I've been a labourer for a local liquor company, worked as a stagehand and bouncer in my late teens, worked in the local police service for several years, and went back to the local community college and got my Associate's in Information Systems as well as my A+.  I worked in IT since 2002, and have worked in a local insurance company, a company that was the authorised service cente for Dell in Bermuda, and currently work at a local law firm.  ove the work- mostly hardware & client software, with a sprinkling of administration (creating profiles, unlocking accounts, adding & removing permissions for folders & exchange accounts).  Basically I'm low-end, but still much needed.  If you ask what I do, I usually say I'm your average support tech monkey.   :-D

Nice to meet you all!
