Anarchy / I've got a computer addiction
« on: June 24, 2007, 07:45:04 AM »
I've allways had the feeling I spent too much time behind the screen, and since I read up on computer addiction I really think I have it. I've been playing games like civilization 4 too long on-line, missing college the following day. I lie to my friends and family about how much time I spend on the computer.
In general, it interferes with my life, badly, not taking responsibilities, the computer is a hiding place for me when i feel bad or sad and that is not right. I

Any help/tips you can give me? Own experience perhaps?
Most obvious is to create a tight schedule of when I can go on the pc and when not, but I'm not sure if I can.

Political Opinions / Will there ever be an end to how much we can discover?
« on: November 06, 2006, 10:41:33 PM »
(Assuming the universe is limited)

Will we, at any time in our future, know everything there is to know? About physics, health, pickles, etc etc? Or will there be new explorations to pursue time after time?

Being as student physics myself, I know we derive things with merely approximations on how things work. Like gravitation; first it was Archimedes who found out that object with greater weight fall quicker. Galileo discovered that resistance is the cause of difference in fall speed. Newton then quantitized gravitation, who was corrected again by Einstein's general relativity.
Were does this stop? Will we ever know the TRUTH how things work, exactly?

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Dilemma
« on: June 25, 2006, 03:35:34 AM »
Back on another forum, I have a discussion which is quite a dilemma to me. What is the plural of 'computermouse' ? Computermice? Or computermouses?
The word 'computermice' sounds very strange to me. Because we are not speaking of actual mice.
Since you lot are nearing omniscience as we know it, please help me out!

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / CoD2 Map Building
« on: May 04, 2006, 09:59:02 AM »
Yesterday I picked up Call of Duty 2 (the game I often play with friends) map making, which proved to be extremely addicting. I'm a total newbie at mapping, but with some tutorials I managed to create a garage with balcony (hurray).
Now I'm doing some more serious mapping, trying to create a multiplayer team deathmatch map with two buildings facing eachtother in between wilderness.

I was wondering, do some of you lot have map building experience?

Political Opinions / Cloning
« on: March 10, 2006, 07:58:55 PM »
Cloning is very usefull. Nutricious and cheap food can be created and healthy organs for easy transplantations. But how far should we go? For scientific purposes, should we clone human embryos? If not, why then is it ok to clone animals? Should, in more general, any artificial gene manipulation be allowed, like preventing your child to have a certain diseace?

A lot of questions, coming down to one thing: How far should we manipulate natural process of Life?

Obviously, I think human exctinction should be prevented. If a heavy natural disaster or disease strikes Earth and cloning people is the only option to continue, then this is the way to go.
It is clear that knowledge is needed for this. So scientific investigation is absolutely necessary.
I have no problems in cloning plants or animals for better nutrition, nor organ growing. That being said, it would be hypocritical to be against embry cloning. The society isnt ready for this (and may never be). However, at sake of knowlegde, I think the effects of cloning on human beings should be studied.

Anarchy / The dead domino bird
« on: November 18, 2005, 02:04:18 PM »
Since a couple of years, we Dutchmen have the crazy habit of setting up a large amount of domino stones and then let them all go down. We call it, very original, Domino D-Day. Every year we try and brake our past year's former record.

This year, the show has been treatened by a little bird!  It flew around in the hall and let allready 23k stones fall over.

*dramatic tune*

The bird has been shot.

I was wondering what you all think of this.

Anarchy / DISGRACE 2!!! No German Missions in COD2
« on: November 01, 2005, 04:56:24 PM »
Well, since this is my complaint forum :P

Since a couple of days I've got the game Call of Duty 2. Great game, but... but... no german missions!!! You play the Americans, the English, the Russions, but not the Germans, on whose side soldiers has suffered aswell in the terrible WW2.
This is very wrong and onesighted of the creators and displays the wrong image of life in the war.

Moreover, germans are allways depicted as ugly and harsh sounding schweinen. Americans are cool, English civilized, and Russians are rough (in COD1 Russians were depicted silly).

In short, it is unfair for Germany and the German soldiers that they are depicted by the creators of COD2 as ugly beasts without brains while Russia and certainly America and England are praised to slaughther them.

Ok, fascism is much like evil, but so was Stalin's reign. But in a war two parties fight eachother, each with its own successes and failures. Therefore it is unjust to ignore the German story.

What do you people think about this?

Political Opinions / Disgrace!!! Friend unable to get GEEK POINTS!
« on: October 18, 2005, 06:25:56 AM »
Dear people,

Today, something terrible has come to my ears. My friend, good people, is unable to get geek points at www.thinkgeek.com
And do you people know why? WHY? Cuz he lives in Holland. People! Holland! The best and lowest country in the world! Its so great I can hardly find words to describe my dear country, good people.

But back to the point.

Only AMERICANS can collect geek points. What kind of discrimination is this? We dutchmen aren't black! People! Of all the horrors in the world, my friend has been utterly discomforted by this cruelty.

People! Let boarders disappear, let geeks aller lände join and collect GEEK POINTS. I cannot be responsible for my friend's action if he stays GEEK POINTless.

I end my case, good people. I hope you have shed some tears. My friend has. Rise against American tyranny!!!
