Hi !

Welcome!

1802
Because I don't believe in pressing my views on other people....

In your mind, does your introduction post count as an Tech Support Question?

Or...

Are you introducing yourself as a confused man with an IT degree and using the post as an example?

If the former... click here

If the later... Welcome!

If neither, ignore me completely and consider the fact that I really couldn't help you either way.

1803
 HAHA!

I've got to remember to leave the long explaination for later next time!

Every year our fund-raiser (still is; but Im not there) is hash sales.
Deer hash; it's the best meat hash you will ever have melt in your mouth...ohGOD. It is some good stuff.

And here I was thinking I was the only one who would know what meat hash was, without automatically assuming it was meat with... "hash" in it. That was my first assumption anyway, imagine the shock on my thirteen-year-old face, then the sudden relief once it was explained to me that there was no actual "hash" in it (shock and fear really, relief because there were rules in my hippie household about the who, what, where, when, and why when it came to... ah hell, when it came to weed alright, let's just say it, I thought it was meat and weed!). And you're right, it's like meat butter. There's something to be said about us country folk, we know about good eats.

Why the embrassement?

I love chitlins, I know what they are and damn it, I love them anyway!

Part of me is just really disturbed by the other part of me, and I can't decide which part it's distrubed the most by - the fact that I eat them, love them, or have made them from scratch. But as much as I love them, every time I say I love them a part of my brain goes, "God, you're such redneck."

Oh well, at least I look really hot in Daisy Dukes.

1806

I don't know what's more disturbing.

That fact that I know what you saying, that fact that I know why it's said that way, the fact that I've done it, or the fact that I agree with you. (Except for the feet. Never been a fan of pickled feet.)

1807
:-)  Yay another night owl "hoo"s also Southern! I'm originally from South Carolina (Greenwood, and then Greenville) before I moved here to Georgia. Used to go to Charlotte all the time, and have family in Apex/Chapel Hill.

I don't know how "southern" you can call me since we didn't permanently move here until I was eleven (yay, my parents were hippies and dragged me all over the earth!), but it is an extremely small world considering how close to Charlotte I live. And I'm thrilled to know that if I slip up and print something profoundly deep south (say for instance, chitlins) at least somebody will know what I'm talking about.

DISCLAIMER: This post does not suggest that only someone from the south-eastern United States knows what 'chitlins' are, only that it is very rare to find otherwise.

Anytime.  :-D

EDIT:

All this talk of cheese and salt and ham just made me go make a sandwich. Damn the powers of suggestion!

It wasn't a state wide law, but I know the Washington State congress was considering it, much to the dismay of restaurant owners. MA also was considering a trans fat ban around the same time period. NYC has also ban trans fat. So after a bit of research its not as big as I thought, but its still there.

I concede the point and stand corrected. I'm still sickened by it.

If people don't care, and the education is falling on deaf ears, why shouldn't the choice to reduce salt be taken from them? If they find their food lacking, they do have a salt shaker. It does not harm the people.

It doesn't harm them? Are you sure? Are you 100% positive that allowing a large group of ignorant people to remain ignorant doesn't harm them?

If you are then we disagree and neither one of us will ever compromise.

If the government caps the salt in the processed food, people will find the food lacking and reach for the salt shaker, then what good will it do? People will still be consuming the same amount if not more salt than before. If they can't listen to reason, then the laws of nature tell us to stay the hell out of it.

This is in the same vein as many states have taken to remove Transfats from processed food from restaurants.

Not entirely true.

The restaurants chain themselves are taking transfat out because the FDA required it to be listed on the nutritional values. The chains knew this would hurt them in the long run and were pro-active about going ahead and getting rid of it before customers realized what they were eating, and stopped. This was a fortunate venture for the governments because people are far more likely to notice fat content than salt content.

I haven't actually heard of any state coming foreward and declaring a transfat ban or cap on a restaurant.

On the same mark, many processed food makers have lowered their salt content, or offered reduced sodium options. The problem is, is that most people couldn't care less about the salt content so the brands don't feel as much pressure to cap their own salt as they do to cap their transfat. So, the FDA decides, "Well boys, how about instead of dumping information they obviously don't care about on deaf ears, lets just make the decision for them."

Yes, I have a big problem with it.

Most people do not have the time/knowledge/heart/space to grow their own food.

Exactly!

Most people can't do what I have the opportunity and knowledge to do, which is why I'm shooting my mouth off on this one. I have a beautiful choice. I can run down to old fashion butcher down the street (because we still have one) buy a cheap ham and a bag of curing salt, and make the damn country ham myself, but ONLY because I have the time/knowledge/space to do so. Most people do not! They rely on grocery stores and processing plants to roll out those options in a more convenient time efficient manner. The FDA stepping in and capping salt in processed foods is declaring that a large portion of civilization is incapable of making a reasonable adult decision.

Maybe they are right, maybe a large portion of the population can't. The point is, I'm apalled by the decision to stop educating people and just start making the decisions for them, which is the direction this whole load of manure is headed in. It's the direction it's been headed in for quite some time.

Now I am all for being able to do what ever, when ever I want. But I feel torn on issues such as food and what it contains. I eat McDonald's knowing full well it is horrible for me. I love burgers, fries, and the Cheesy Gordita Crunch from Taco Bell. I have read Fast Food Nation and still I am drawn into these opium food dens. Now if the government is going to step in and say "Hey food companies, clean up your food. Make it a little more healthy." who am I complain about it.

I think its a slippery slope to say that government forcing food companies to clean up there food a bit is going to then lead to them telling me exactly what I can and can not eat. Big Brother is not telling me I can't eat, its telling the corporations that I buy food from what to do.

And if I find the food is lacking, there is always the salt shaker at the table.

I'm one those backwoods country bumpkins who makes half the shit on that list herself anyway. I don't buy it, so the list doesn't really concern me that much (until they put a cap on how salt a private citizen can buy, that is).

My point was more along the lines of...

They now think we're four and can't decide for ourselves what to eat for dinner anymore. If you don't have a problem with it, fine. There are plenty of websites that will be happy to tell you what to buy, where, and when to eat it. I just don't think it's a matter the government should get involved in.

Since when does the government have the right to put a ban on what I put in my body as fuel? You're making a conscience decision as an adult to eat those foods, because you like them. If you want to stop, but find you're addicted, there are plenty of places to get help. If you don't want the help, then... be an adult and make up your mind. But to be painfully blunt, the FDA has no business putting a salt cap on anything.

Since when does the government care how fast I'm killing myself?

They made suicide illegal a long time ago, which I have serious problems with that too.

If this thing passes I'm going to have to start a black market cheese ring just to spite them.

Telling me I can't is another.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23694159/

We all know the government doesn't think we can make informed decisions as adults on our own anymore, but when I saw this I nearly gagged.

Next thing you know they'll be telling me what books I should read and who I should be talking too...
God, I sounded like my bat-shit religious wing-nut father just then.

Anyway... Salt? Are you kidding me? Informing me about the salt content is one thing, telling me I shouldn't eat it is fabulous (knowledge is power), but suddenly deciding I can't? God man, it's SALT!

First let me say this:

I work third shift front desk at a hotel, not just any hotel, a five diamond golf and spa resort, so I not only get stupid I get rich and stupid, which, when combined, generally creates a really disturbing concoction.

Now, here's the scenario:

It's 2:00am. The phone rings, the guy asks for a room number, I transfer the call up to the girl's room. Not even 2 minutes later I receive another call from the same person, asking for the same room. I transfer the call. Another 2 minutes pass, and again, guy calls up asking for the same girl's room. This may go on for half an hour or longer. One night I transferred some poor man 37 times.
And this is not unusual. It occurs with both genders, although women seem to be more inclined to ask for the bar the second time, and when they find out the bar is closed, may only call back two or three more times, then they ask to have a message left for the guest. Men seem more inclined to just keeping fucking calling, as if she is going magically decide to answer. Even when we suggest leaving a message, they don't go for that, they want to just keep calling.

Here's my rant:

At what point do you decide to stop calling? How many times do you have to be transferred up to the room only to have the person not answer? Do you do this when they're at home? Because if you do you're a creep and it's no wonder they don't want to answer the fucking phone. If you don't, why the fucking hell do you feel the need to do it in a hotel? If you're that suspicious, hire a PI. The Night Audit crew has other things to do than transfer your sorry ass 37 times, by the fifth try it should be obvious they aren't picking up. Leave a fucking message, either with the desk or on the voice mail, and go the fuck to bed!

Rant finished.

Offensive?

For once the man is pictured in his true form. One should never be encouraged to hide their true self.  :-P

I don't know which one to go with. The one with 568,000 miles and original tires, or the one with the rims that cost three times as much as the car!
They're all such great deals!

So I found out from the vet today that my cat has a dermititis that she got from being allergic to fleas.  To fix the problem, I have to give her a scrub bath, wherein I get her all lathered up and let the soap soak on her skin from anywhere from ten to fifteen minutes.

No really, I'm going have a wet, soapy cat sitting in her kennel glaring at me with death in her eyes for ten to fifteen minutes, and the vet's assistant is saying it so flippantly, like the cat's not going to go piss on everything once I'm done with the bath.

There are moments when being a cat owner are so worth it...

This is not one of them. (Then again she will be happier once she's dry and done taking out her revenge.)

EDIT: Having completed the task, it's official, my cat now hates me, and wants to kill me and everyone of my family members.

Brilliant.

Then you should be able to deduce an answer for your own question. That is after all why you came here, right?

But why would you ask a bunch of humorless internet newbies for advice? You obviously are so profoundly better at searching it then we are.

Good luck.

Anyway...

If the Psychic pokemon have an IQ of 5000 (I forget which one) then why do they take orders from a middle schooler? :p

I'm not a huge fan of Pokemon (still hung up where the hell these kids' parents are), but my smart-ass reputation reqiures me to sarcastically remind you that IQ does not actually test someone's reasoning skills, therefor (theoretically speaking) it is possible to have an IQ of 5000 and absolutely no common sense.

I pronounced "asterik" as "as-er-tisk" up until college.
Then again, I live in North Carolina. If you want to hear mispronounced words, come, live here, where evict-icated is something your land-lord can do to you if you don't pay your rent.

Generally I have very witty comeback for all Shakespear debauchery...

...

But dude...

As a lover of the original...

All I have to say is...

You just so totally ruined that one for me... permanently.
From now on, when I think of St. Crispin's Day (as if there aren't enough way to blaspheme that one) I will always think of 'we band of complete bastards'.
And just when I was thinking Henry V was safe too.
Let this be said in all the best humor, 'may you be tarred and feathered wherever you go by every poet you meet'.   :-D
Congratulations.

That's strange.  Posts 3021-3023 weren't there this morning when I posted my last response, almost two hours later than the time they were posted.  The only thing after Wunderkind's post was canoftuna's.

Makes me look like an idiot, but I guess some things never change.   :-D

Maybe you're computer was stuck in a time warp. Mentioning Random House, Inc. seems to do that to people and objects, but, again, that's a rant I'll save for when I'm in a really bitchy mood and want to post in the Flamer's Corner.

No fear.

To disorient. Past tense.

...yep

Ah. I see now. We won't go into my fierce hatred of Random House. I'll save that for the Flamer's Corner.

That being said,

thus is the evolution of language. However, I agree with you. Disorientated is the most awkard word I've ever pronounced, it's like saying evict-icated.

(Or uniquer... U'-ni-ker... uniquer... )

(Is that the only source on the internet of disorientated actually being a word?)
