Anarchy / Saddam Interrogation

Not exactly political, so I threw it in Anarchy. It's a pretty funny read.

Political Opinions / Doonsebury dropped

Not sure if this counts as Political or Anarchy, so I'm taking a gamble here, folks.

I have a feeling that the line about "not politically motivated" is a load of horse shit.  Let me make one thing clear. I am no fan of Doonsebury. I find Gary to be an utter, complete, talentless sack. However, (there's always a 'however') was it necessary to remove the strip entirely? Perhaps it should have been moved to the Editorial pages, along with B.C. and Mallard Fillmore.
(also written by a talentless sack, only this one leans to the right.) What do you all think? Is it a 'the people have spoken' or 'OMG CENSORSHIP!!1!"

Political Opinions / What do you think of the Kerry\Edwards ticket?

Think this will help or hurt him? Was this the right person for the job, or were you hoping for maybe Dean? I was hoping Bush would pick somebody different as well, since we're on the VP topic.

That's a horrible price, when you break it down. Originally $1500 for 50 DVDs? Way to take advantage of the faithful...

Ok, which one of you guys wrote this:

this movie is perfect for children of all ages. and will teach your children about the history of christ. this movie is rated PG for brief scenes of sadness. the only violent part is when christ trips and falls. a little blood comes out. this movie is wounderful and whoever dose not like it is stupid and a stupid smelly bowl of rotting turd and cum. --This text refers to the DVD edition

Ok, besides the obvious 'doorstop', I think this is a neat idea, but I wouldn't eat the finished product.

Anarchy / Password Generator

I didn't see this in the topic search, so if this is a double, I apologize. This is a pretty cool site that will create secure passwords to hand out to users. I've been using it for a bit now and am pretty happy with it. It lets you set length, type of characters allowed and number of passwords made per request.

Just a heads up, guys and gals. If you've got a Windows\System32\Data or Winnt\System\Data directory, take a look and see if there are any .jpg files with dates as names on them. Here is a cut-and-paste from the article describing it:

WinXPNews.com (article about halfway down)

Spyware Photographs Your Windows XP Desktop

We received a very disturbing letter from a WinXPnews reader last week:

"I was cleaning out the "unerase files" that Norton Anti-Virus holds when I happened to look through them. I found a number of jpg files in the list. They were named something like "2003-7-2_1-5-45.jpg," a record of a date and time. I traced the folder to WINDOWS\system32\data. In it were more files like this. One was created EXACTLY every five minutes. They also have a thumbnail version. When I viewed them, I was shocked. There was a perfect screenshot of my computer at that time! What if I have credit card numbers or a private email on the screen at that time? Anyone with the right hack could find these files and exploit them! Is this something that Microsoft is doing to keep an eye out? My virus software can find nothing. Please, let the readers know if it is a security issue."

Looks like someone installed a very malicious spyware program on this user's computer. These kinds of screen capture spy applications are very effective for capturing credit card information, user names, document and file system data, and email reconnaissance information. There's a good chance that the program is sending these screen shots to someone "out there" for review. That's why it's so important to have a good spyware and scumware blocking application. It doesn't matter which one you use, just use one!

It won't be detected by NAV or McAfee, so you'll need to search for it manually. I'm sure most of you already use some type of "ad-aware" like software so you should be ok.

I've got an old 5GB Ipod and want to hook it up through my truck's stereo. I've bought, and returned, two transmitter type things already. Since I can't remember who made them, I'll just describe them. One of them plugs into the 5v adapter and a little usb thing plugs into that. Then a cord runs from the usb thing to the Ipod's headphone jack. Utter crap. Staticy like crazy. Then next one I tried plugged into the headphone jack and required batteries to transmit to 88.7 FM. Utter crap again. 90% static, barely any sound. I know it's not the stereo, as it works fine. I've fiddled with the settings and tried all possible combinations. Has anyone had any success with these type of devices. The one Apple sells seems only to work for the newer Ipods and not my old one. I don't care who makes it, as long as the quality is good and not all staticy. Thanks a bunch!

Hi there! I, too, am someone from HackerNetwork and was led here by a post from the lovely and gracious Detta.   I work at a university in the IT department, like reading, RPGs, classic video games and working out.
