Yeah, not gonna lie.  I'm a pretty fast reader too.  If it's a book I'm into I usually knock it out in a couple days if I don't have other things going on.  The Percy Jackson ones were like that.  I really liked them and they were a pretty fast read anyway...I think I went through each of them in an average of a day and a half or so.

Nope.

IBNTP isn't kicking around the idea of firebombing their management chain.

No, if he was in IRC a few months ago then I'm definitely thinking of someone else.

I think there's a bright line of difference when you're talking about "shift work" versus any other kind of work.

I've been exempt/salaried for years and years, and there's no shift for me to cover.  I usually roll in sometime between 8:00 and 9:00 if I'm going to the office that day.  But I also have the ability to work from home.  When I do that, I'm usually online and working somewhere between 7:30 and 8:00.  I also usually work well beyond 40 hours in any given work week, basically for free.  If I habitually came in at 9:00, took an hour lunch and left at 4:00, it'd probably be a problem.  We have people that are hourly/non-exempt who don't have to cover shifts.  Those people usually have the latitude to come in and leave mostly as they see fit, provided they do their 8 hours.  We also have people who are hourly/non-exempt and they do have to cover shifts.  The expectation is that they are there and ready to work, on time.  I honestly don't know what the punishment is if they're late.

Now, on to my personal opinion.  If it's a workplace where someone being late means that others have to work longer, I think the punishment should be harsher.  For example, if I have an appointment after my scheduled shift and I miss it (or am late to it) because the next person on shift was late and I had to cover...I am going to be PISSED.  If it doesn't impact someone else or the business, they can make it up on the back end as far as I'm concerned.

<snip> defaulting on "exposed" whenever they change something or rip some controls away.  </snip>
Here's a story for you.  One of FB's recent changes did reset the default privacy settings on pictures.  My cousin posted a funny and innocent picture of her son, and the story that went with it.  The pic is of him sitting naked on the living room floor, reading a book.  The story is that his underwear were in the dryer, and he wasn't comfortable going commando, so he decided to stay naked and read while he was waiting.  You couldn't see his pieces and parts, but he was clearly naked.

A large number of people who were total strangers to my cousin commented on the photo and tore her a new one for (in their opinion) posting what amounted to child porn on FB.  I sent my cousin a private note telling her to check her privacy settings and explaining to her that there was a recent change etc.

The current one.  I knew I shoulda quoted.
It's been on the "Currently Reading" list for quite awhile now.  I am having a really hard time getting into it.  Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was a much much better book.

How was 'Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter'? I've been keeping an eye out for it at the local reseller.
I liked it.  It was a bit slow-going in the beginning, and I had to work through that.  But I stuck with it because someone told me it was worth it.  It turned out to be very interesting, and there's a bit of a twist at the end that kind of brought it all together and made it worth it for me.

Wow, it's like free-verse poetry from a non-English speaker.  I'm positive that there's a deep metaphysical meaning in there somewhere, but my mind is just too blown to see it.

I resurrected Abraham Lincoln. He's running as a write-in.
You can't resurrect him, because he's still alive.  Geez, didn't you read Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter?  It's only the best Lincoln biography EVER!

Boss: So, how do you feel now that you've talked to Bob? (NOTE: Bob is an alias for my boss' boss...my 2nd level manager)

ME: Um...dirty.

Boss: *laughs uncomfortably* Did you say 'dirty'?

ME: Yep.

Boss:......

ME: I hung up the phone, sat there for a bit feeling dirty and mildly used, then I went for the ice cream.  The ice cream didn't help, so now I'm planning a Silkwood Scrubdown in the shower in a little while.

Boss: *laughs uncomfortably again*  Um, this really isn't a good thing...the way you're feeling.

ME: Gee, you think?

Ooohhhh, yeah.  Um, I dropped the ball.  I should be fired and beaten.  With a spatula.
