Why is BizB in a nutshell?  What are you doing there?

The Prime Minister has a glass eye!
Huh?  Link please.

I think that if you teach your kids love and respect and gratitude then the rest usually follows with it. I'm not going to rant on about it because I think it something we all almost agree upon.
I think you'd be surprised how many people completely disagree with you.  I think it's pretty safe to say that most of the people running around with serious senses of entitlement were "loved and respected and shown gratitude" when they were kids.  In fact, I think that's exactly the problem.  Those people were shown too much (or a bizarre version of) those sentiments.

Political Opinions / Re: GM and Dealers
« on: June 18, 2009, 04:54:00 PM »
I know this flies in the face of the "franchise" type of thought, but is it possible that GM (at a corporate level) somehow subsidizes GM dealerships?  If so, that could explain the need to offload a ton of them.

Here's a random question...Hey Demo, where ya been...haven't seen you around in awhile?

255
Thanks for the correction.  It felt really good :knotty:
That's, "Thanks for the correction, Mistress."  Don't make me pull out the ball-gag again!!!

256
So the Structure is non-Standard?
Pretty much, yeah.  There are many different flavors of SQL that all have slight (to moderate) syntax differences.

257
I eliminate acronyms from my life whenever possible. I've found they cause confusion. For instance, SQL really does stand for "sequel" or "sequential" in certain circles. Thus, I will now procede to piss everyone I know off by referring to it as Standard Query Language.
And they will all laugh at you for referring to it by the wrong name.   :-P

258
StandardQueryLanguage
It's Structured Query Language.

I've never really known anyone (even DBAs and such) who actually call it Ess-Cue-Ell.  Interesting.  Is it an English thing?

Dude!  Don't hate just because you're not deep enough to understand the beauty of this thread.  This thread is timeless, man.  Beauty is timeless, man.  The man that created these deep thoughts in this thread is both beautiful and timeless, man.  You just don't understand, man.  On the other hand, you're simplicity is also beautiful and timeless, so maybe you should continue.  I only ask that you continue in an aesthetically pleasing manner.  Man.

261
Well, what do you call it then?

Political Opinions / Re: *Not* an abortion thread
« on: June 03, 2009, 06:20:07 PM »
In an attempt to get this back on Joe's topic, I thought I would add something interesting that IS contained in the Bible (as relates to pregnancy termination).

Exodus 21:22
If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

Now, I find it interesting that the only mention (that I know of in the entire Bible) of punishment for "killing of an unborn" calls for a fine.  I mean, hell, this is even Old Testament law where death sentences are prescribed like candy for even relatively minor offenses (e.g. mixing of fabrics).  And yet, causing the death of an unborn is punishable by a fine....go figure.

<snip>
Having said that, although I worry about the moral implications of abortion and what affects it has on the terminators mental state I am very much pro-choice.
<snip>
Please understand that I'm not intending to be a bitch when i say, "Who are you to worry about the mental state of someone who has an abortion?"  Have you ever stopped to think that for many many women, the only thing they feel about it is a profound sense of relief?  Maybe I'm just being touchy about it, but your phrasing implies a sense of superiority; as though a woman who wants/has an abortion is incapable of dealing with that decision.

Idiots and jerks should be outed as such regardless of their religion, 12.  It is generalizations and falsehoods I will not brook.
CONCUR!!!

And to expand on this theme, I have no problem with xolik naming fundie Islam.  Because he put the 'fundie' in there, he'll get no argument from me.

268
Hmm, no I don't quite mean that.  People are free to debate whatever they want.  But when someone yells racial slurs and then gets punched in the face for it...it's not really going to fly to yell "HAY, FREE SPEECH!!".  I don't consider that a debate.

I totally agree with you on everything you said, except the getting punched in the face part.  I don't know that I'd agree that someone should be physically assaulted because of their words (in your specific instance).  As to the underlying idea, I totally concur.

Free speech means that you can say what you want without fear of consequences from the government.  Certain people made that right possible and others hide behind it when they get an unfavorable reaction to what they said.  It puts a bad taste in my mouth, that's all.

I suppose I understand the bad taste; the one in my mouth is just usually caused by something totally different.   :-)

Jesus tap dancing christ. This again?
Hey!  I wasn't here before.  I was on vacation.  So, yes, this AGAIN.  And, the question wasn't directed to you.  And, your answer implies that I'm resurrecting the big argument in the thread when clearly I'm not.  I'm simply wondering about Detta's comment, which is pretty far removed from the Tweek and 12 showdown regarding freedom and racial slurs.

The rich-vs.-poor-where-the-rich-have-clones-for-parts-harvesting has already been done.  It's a fantastic book called Spares by Michael Marshall Smith.  One of my all-time favourite books, which is saying something since I don't normally go in for the dystopian experience.

I like the idea of women becoming the dominant in society, but how is that dystopian?

271
<snip>

As an aside, it doesn't sit well with me to throw the "freedom of speech" argument into the face of someone who has defended that freedom for you.
Out of curiosity, Detta...

Does this mean that a person should never have a debate about freedom (or defend their own rights to their freedoms) or the Constitution or the Bill of Rights with someone that has served any time in the armed forces?

Columbine was a surprise read for me.  I wasn't planning on reading it, but a friend of mine talked it up quite a bit.  Excellent book.

I think I have to agree with xolik.  It is possible for a disagreement to be driven by something other than hate.  In this case you're talking about a CATHOLIC institution.  It makes sense to me that they wouldn't necessarily want a pro-choice speaker at their biggest event of the year.
