Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Re: I'm Lazy!
« on: December 14, 2011, 07:12:08 PM »
Thanks guys!

Seems to me that if I'm currently okay with 250W and the only thing I'm changing out is the vid card (to one that requires a 300W minimum) then I should be okay with upgrading the power supply to 300W.

Any major flaws in that logic?

I read those when I was 17. It was literary porn to me.
HUGE THREAD BUMP!!!  Sorry for that...I missed this thread originally.

Uh, they are literary porn.  I own the trilogy and have reread them enough that the spines are broken and they're pretty beat up.  Good stories, but make no mistake...it's pretty hardcore porn.

Ok, I really don't feel like doing any homework, so can someone please hand me an answer on a silver platter?  My video card is about to crap out.  PC is a few years old.  Current power supply is rated at 250W, and most of the video cards I find are rated at 300W minimum.  Two questions:

1. Do I really have to have a 300W power supply or are they trying to extort me into buying additional hardware?

2. If I really do need a new power supply, can I just get one and install it, or will it fry my motherboard (see comment about current power supply being rated at 250W)?

Political Opinions / No idea what to title this thread
« on: December 01, 2011, 04:38:35 PM »
One of our local news outlets (azcentral.com) is changing their commenting system.  Gone is the anonymous account registered via the website.  The new system will require people who want to comment to have a FB account and their comments will be linked to their FB account.  Effectively, if I comment on an article, my name will be there for all the world to see.  The decision makers at the paper claim that they're trying to bring back civil discourse by forcing people to be accountable for their words.  My cynical nature just think they're entered into some sort of financial agreement with FB.  That aside, what do you guys think?

Political Opinions / Personhood Fails in Mississippi
« on: November 09, 2011, 02:02:22 PM »
Interesting development there.  If I had to list the states where I would expect a personhood amendment to pass, MS would have been on the list.  Looks like the personhood movement is targetting Florida, Ohio and South (or North, don't remember which) Dakota next.

His first name is never referred to, but I can only assume that there's ONE Flagg in Stephen King's universe.   :-D

I originally read it many many years ago, and it's always stuck with me as being a really good book.  I starting thinking about it again recently, and went digging through my library to re-read it.  No dice.  It's gone mising over the years.  So I went to Barnes & Noble and bought another copy.  It's definitely as good as I remember.  Not at all what I would consider 'typical' Stephen King (although Flagg is a major character in the book).

I just had an entertaining Cryptonomicon moment.

BACKGROUND: I am working from home today.  I do not normally eat Cap'n Crunch, but I do keep a box of it around for the rare occasion that the craving strikes.

The craving struck this morning.  I got everything out and lined up on the counter: bowl, spoon, cereal, milk.  I poured the cereal in the bowl, poured the milk in and began to shovel in the cereal.  Shovel in the cereal because, of course, if you go too slow you lose the crunchy aspect of the cereal.  Even with my rapid rate of consumption, I was still only halfway through when I realized that the milk was now a couple degrees warmer and the cereal was just past its ideal crispiness/crunchiness.  Then I remembered that I read about this particular issue in a book somewhere.  Then I remembered that it was Cryptonomicon.

Huh.  I like that too.

I think fans of the Original Series should be called "Shatnerians".
This makes the assumption that fans of the original are fans because of Shatner.  What do you propose to call those who are fans because of the inimitable Leonard Nimoy?
