Yeah, and develop or use technology to go to a new world perhaps... To let humanity die out because of cloning morals is like refusing to drive a car with someone very ill to the hospital because it misses the right blink light.
I don't understand why, with your overall dim view of your fellow man, you would want humanity to survive. Do you think that future generations will be somehow better than the banal and prurient masses getting on your nerves today?
Also, I would argue that ensuring mankind's survival at the expense of his moral integrity is not worth the effort. In any case, we fought and won that war back in the 1940s.
Am I such a doom thinker? No way! I strongly believe absolute science can overcome our problems in the future. But not that we should blindly trust science, but do the things we can to help the world advance for the good. I´m a perfectionist which is why I often have critism about things. And you may remember I appreciate the principles of communism? So, no you are absolutely wrong to say I have a dim view of humanity.

Yesterday I picked up Call of Duty 2 (the game I often play with friends) map making, which proved to be extremely addicting. I'm a total newbie at mapping, but with some tutorials I managed to create a garage with balcony (hurray). Now I'm doing some more serious mapping, trying to create a multiplayer team deathmatch map with two buildings facing eachtother in between wilderness.
I was wondering, do some of you lot have map building experience?

1 is neither prime nor composite. That's true, but isnt it totally onlogical? By definition of a prime number, you can only divide 1 by 1 (itself and 1) to gain an integer.

And for some reason I thought you were a woman...huh. Truth be told, I've had that happen more often in my 'online life'. What I heard, people are confused with 'Tera' as a feminine name, while in fact, I use the word tera as the prefix 'a thousand Giga'. That's because I am quite large (over 2 metres). And "Hammer"; I just looked for a word to go with it. So, don't be ashamed... much

Massive effect my ass! In fact, Vespertine, stopping at our planets in our solar system isnt nearly enough yet. There are billions of stars in our universive who have planets themselves... OMG NO!!!!!

Newton's law of gravity applies to any two objects. So in this calculation this it is the gravitational effect from the sun to the earth. Or, if you want, the gravitational effect from the earth to the sun. They are both the same. The toy cars, in your example, allways exert the same gravity forces towards eachother, even if they have different masses. This is because the gravity force Fg is:
Fg = G*mA*mB/r^2 where mA and mB are the each toy car's masses. If you change mA into mB and mB into mA, its the same.
So to answer your final question, I am considering the forces between the sun and the earth, not just the gravitational pull of one object, but the interaction between these two.

Far fetched? Sure. Impossible? Prove it! Sounds like a challenge Say we want to cool down from T0 to T0-T (where T0 is the earth's current tempertarure, 298 K) I'll assume the temperature on earth is proportianal to the intensity of the sun rays. This gives that the intensity must decrease with I = I0 * (T0-T)/T0, where I0 is the current intensity we get. I0 = C/R^2. I= C/(R+d)^2 with d the displacement we need to give our lovely planet and R the current distance between the sun and earth. I0/I = ((R+d)/(R))^2 = T0/(T0-T). Solving above for d -> d= R*sqrt(T0/(T0-T))-R. Filling in R = 1,496*10^12 m T0 = 298 K T0-T = 288 K (I decrease the temperature with 10 Kelvin) gives d = 2,5*10^10 metre. Compare this with earth's diametre: RE = 12.8*10^6 m. We would have to move the earth about 2000 times the distance of the diameter. Considering energy needed to do thisThe potential energy U0 of the earth to the sun is U0 = -G*(Me*Ms)/R with Me and Ms the mass of earth and mass of sun, and G Newton's gravitation constant. U, the new potential energie, is: U = -G*(Me*Ms)/(r+d). And the energie needed for the propultion machine is U-U0 = - G*(Me*Ms) ( 1/(R+d)-1/R) Filling in: Ms = 2 x 10^30 kg G = 6.67300 × 10-11 Me = 5.9742 × 10^24 kg R = 1,496*10^12 m d = d = 2,5*10^10 Gives: Energy needed: 8,8*10^30 Joule I havent the time to search for the energy produced by oil on earth in a year. Anyone? Anyway, 10^30 Joule is quite a lot for just 10 celcius lowering. Talking about economy eh

If we actually suffer from such a catastrophy, is there a point in continuing? With such a disaster I'm sure more than just the humans suffer. What the hell are we supposed to do if there is no other life on this planet than us? Clone ourselves for a million years until new plants have developed being able to live in the habitat? Just asking...

we aren't animals obviously so we dont know if the same would happen to humans. but would it be ethical though to try it even? "it might turn out norrmal or it might have a serious malformation or disease", what then, kill it? Why is animal cloning ok, but human cloning not? We origin from animals. We are merely an higher species, but if you have the ethics to clone an animal, what makes a human being different?

Cloning is very usefull. Nutricious and cheap food can be created and healthy organs for easy transplantations. But how far should we go? For scientific purposes, should we clone human embryos? If not, why then is it ok to clone animals? Should, in more general, any artificial gene manipulation be allowed, like preventing your child to have a certain diseace?
A lot of questions, coming down to one thing: How far should we manipulate natural process of Life?
Obviously, I think human exctinction should be prevented. If a heavy natural disaster or disease strikes Earth and cloning people is the only option to continue, then this is the way to go. It is clear that knowledge is needed for this. So scientific investigation is absolutely necessary. I have no problems in cloning plants or animals for better nutrition, nor organ growing. That being said, it would be hypocritical to be against embry cloning. The society isnt ready for this (and may never be). However, at sake of knowlegde, I think the effects of cloning on human beings should be studied.

Denmark and the Netherlands do actually look-a-like, geograpically. Rather small and lying low, with somewhat the same language from an outside view. Our flags are very different though.
WHY oh WHY is it "Dutch" and not "Netherlandish" or "Netherlish" AAARRGH. I can't stand it. Too much like "Dutchland", or, 'Deutschland'.
