What sort of dedicated server?  I'm assuming you're referring to a dedicated web server, right?

I was at Applebees once and ordered a burger but almost immediately changed my mind.  I grabbed my server and asked if it were possible to get a chicken sandwich instead.  She had already sent the order to the kitchen but ran back there and told the cook to make it chicken instead.

Now that's a dedicated server!

I was at Charlotte's once and ordered some flies but almost immediately changed my mind. I grabbed my web server and asked if it were possible to get a locust sandwich instead. She had already sent the order to the kitchen but ran across the whole web and into the kitchen and told the cook to make it locust instead.

Now that's a dedicated web server!

I was at this restaurant once. It was haunted. Pseudonymph ordered a sandwich, but they didn't have it. The server suggested spinach dip instead.

She was not a dedicated server.

The first thing that came to mind was the Web Hosting Talk forums. They have forums for everything over there.

What kind of specs are you looking for in your dedicated server?

that may have been the one. it looks a little different...

we need a lot of space (since we will be sharing with another website) and plenty of bandwidth. server Matrix is supposed to be the best, but I wanted to look around a bit.

I want some cheese fries!

You'll need to talk to your server about that.  Hopefully he or she will be dedicated.

pseudo, you should check out godaddy.com.  They've got both dedicated servers and virtual dedicated servers.  The site will show you the configurations and price points that are available.

Server Matrix, if I remember correctly, is a branch of The Planet.  I heard about them from HardOCP about a year ago.  They offer pretty good rates.

If you have the recources, or extra hardware lying around, you might want to considder colocating with them, as the prices are cheaper.

Tisk tisk... ;-)

I've heard good things about 1and1.com, ev1servers.net is supposed to be the largest hosting provider out there, I'd suggest the hosting products where I work but they're geared more towards less technically inclined peoples.

AHAHAHAHA!!!

Actually, I (seriously) wasn't necessarily suggesting she buy there, just check it out to see if they have a configuration she likes.  Once she sees all the options, then she can go out and price that specific config at various sites.

I swear it wasn't a sales pitch!!!

It's really a pain trying to find a good dedicated server. they are so damn expensive and of course with the cheaper ones you wonder if it will be enought space and bandwitdh for what you want to do. I had a fellow site show interest in sharing a dedicated server, that would cut the price in half. and how many sites are on one server for shared sites? probably hundreds right? and then there is the moving, getting the domain moved... it makes my head hurt...

I had found these good ones so far:

http://mcpaa.com/dedicated_classic.htm

http://servermatrix.com/

http://allmanaged.com/dedicated_servers_1.php

I'll check out the other recommendations as well :) thanks guys!

Editors' Choice Award for Dedicated Server Hosting Services by Web Host Magazine & Buyer's Guide. Not too bad.

I'd have plugged Work as well if I'd thought we had a product that suited what Pseudo was looking for.
