I'm surprised...
« on: December 18, 2005, 09:21:37 PM »

With the number of us on this board who really can't stand the Napoleonic little fucker that sits in the oval office, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the recent news stories surrounding this putz.  Patriot Act not being renewed with the rubber stamp, Bush being outed about authorizing the NSA to spy within American borders (without a warrant), Bush calling Congress and the news media irresponsible for the above mentioned things.  Come on, I know you guys must have some opinions about this stuff.

EDIT: To those of you who support Bush (and every decision he makes), I apologize for the bitterness inherent in the opening of the above paragraph.  You guys know that I usually try to be objective in political discussions, but I'm at the point where I'm so frustrated that I feel like I'm starting to lose any objectivity that I may have had.

I try to keep my Bush rants to a minimum on the internet, do to my current employment. But suffice it to say, I think he is a troll and I hope he gets impeached for what he did with the NSA.

Has anyone seen the show called "Bullshit" featuring Penn and Teller?

They discuss the bible, and the most important thing is probably when they mention that for the faithful, no fact will convince them they are wrong.

There is plenty of evidence that Bush is not just an idiot, he's an evil idiot, but there are still people that say he's doing well.

There is plenty of evidence that disputes a lot of different things, ranging from PETA to WMDs, but there are always going to be people who are going to ignore it, and there are people who are going to twist some facts and hide others.

I suppose it's getting to the point where everyone is just like, "Well that doesn't f*cking surprise me, it's Bush."

If I may remark, after watching about 10 minutes of one of his addresses, he makes it SO obvious that he is reading something that he did not write, it's not even funny.

Hopefully next election we'll pick the right candidate. I voted for Kerry last time around.

I'm just hoping that Bush's free ride comes to a sreaming halt in 2006. Here's to hoping the Democrats gain control over either the House or the Senate.

I won't defend Bush, but I will mention that what he authorized in the NSA was not done without the knowledge and full consent of several Senate committees.

I couldn't agree with xolik any more strongly.  The best government is a government in total gridlock.  Ultimately, if the congress were controlled the Rs and the presidency controled by the Ds and the Senate were controlled by the Green party or the Libertarians, we'd have a perfect couple of years.

I don't think playing music really loud on the night of the State of the Union Address will do anything. I'm pretty sure we're just going to have to wait it out.

The only thing I keep asking myself is, "Why the fuck did anyone vote for him again?"

Don't be so sure. It's a message to other Americans, which is really who you need to reach in the end.

I know I shouldn't doubt in the power of popular will and the American public...but they are pretty stupid. They aren't enlightened enough to understand much that goes on and it makes it worse when they are constantly spoon fed poor information.  Garbage like Fox News. Bah!

Lately I've been finding the Republican/Democrat duality to be inept in providing well for the public which it is supposed to serve.  I'm not fond a dualistic thinking anyway. It is too limiting, but that is enough rant for now.

I was in Hungary and everyone we met hated the dude.  We of course told them all we didn't vote for him either time.  The day we went to Vienna, Arnie was all over the news for not granting clemency to Tookie.

He, newsflash: 3/4 of the world hate the dude...

I think it has to do with the foreing policy of "preemptive striking" and trying to sell it as "freedom endowing crusade" of sorts...

And no, I still dont' get how he could be reelected...
