Today a caller started bitching and complaining about security and started demanding my last name, which I'm not about to give him because it's A) creepy and B) againt policy. I offer to give him my operator number instead, so I can be identified if anything goes wrong. He doesn't get it.

Him: So...I can call you anytime then?

Me: No, I don't work 24 hours a day.

Him: So this is your extension?

Me: No, it's my operator number.

Him: So what am I supposed to do with this???

Me: If I steal your identity you can call back and identify me with that.

Yes, there was a straight-to-DVD movie. There was NEVER a book.

You'd think more people would know that, wouldn't you?   We have a display of Charlotte's Webs stuff and other E. B. White goodness set up and this woman comes over asking where the rest of the Charlotte's Web series is.  One of the n00bs told her "The Trumpet of the Swan" was the next one...it would have been funnier if she was kidding and lying to the customer so she'd leave us alone AND buy something but the poor thing actually thought what she was saying was true...GAH.

Well, there is one thing for sure: All of us in retail won't be getting as many stupid fucking customers now that the major shopping has passed. Maybe returns, yes, but that'll die down in a week or so anyway.

FR: "Yeah, and since it's after Christmas and I'm returning it, I'd like to buy it again, 50% off."

The calendars are not 50% off...??????  Yeah they were removed from the store.

Also:

2 20-somethings walking into the store:
#1: "Should we get her something from here?"
#2: "Oh, like a book or something...yeah she likes that shit."

Last night a possibly drunk, possibly retarded and extremely southern sounding guy called in for a certain free information package offered by a certain correspondence course school. Bear in mind that my company is NOT the school, we're the after-hours order line that sends out free information packages when the school's closed.

'Hello, would you like to order a free information package?'

'Huhhh'

'Would you like some information about the course of your choice?'

'Course?'

'Yes.'

'What is this?'

'This is a school.'

'School?'

'Yes...'

'I don't go to no school...'

'Well, would you like some free information?'

I know no one's posted on this in nearly a month but I've got 2 goodies for ya:

Mother comes in looking for a book for her 10 year old girl who loves animals.  PERFECT.  Naturally the woman shoots down everything I suggest and is unable to even identify her daughter's favourite animal/animals.  Eventually she asks if perhaps there are any books about people who work with animals, so naturally I suggest Jane Goodall.
mother of the year: "Who is that?"
me: "She did a ton of work with chimpanzees"
mother of the year: "...um...right.  Whatever.  Do you have anything on cats?"

Another good one: 2 teenage boys walk in looking completely lost.
dazed and confused: "Hey can you check something?  Do you have 'The Things They Carried'?  It's a book"
me: "Yes, we should, let me just double check to make sure it's in stock."
dazed and confused: "Whoah...is it like, a famous book or something?"

Oh yes, the future is in their hands...

Oh wow, working at McDonald's; now that brings back memories. Working register/drive-thru, I had to deal with both customers AND the grill workers. Most memorable are the guy that ended up waiting somewhere around an hour or two because he ordered a 5-piece chicken strip meal and the guy on grill made 3 (he didn't even accept the free pies... *sadness*  :roll:), the 3-person, 9 Happy Meal order (they left the boxes stacked on the table... and not very well), and one regarding the wonders of the value menu.

Basically, a guy asked how much a hamburger is but ordered a cheeseburger w/out cheese. When he found out that the computer somehow charges more for such frivolities, he got quite upset. The result was a 20 minute discussion between him and the manager.

Aye, good times.

I never understood why some customers argue about prices. As long as the receipt matches the menu, and vice versa, there really is nothing up for discussion. A retailer can sell a product for however much they want to, even if the price doesn't make sense because a 6 piece nugget is $3.60, and a 4 piece is only $1.07. I guess doing the math and finding the better buy is too hard for some people. :roll:

As if there's some great conspiracy to overcharge everyone...it's not a conspiracy if everyone just knows and accepts it.  Also, if I say the book doesn't exist yet, that it's not due out for another 6 months and then turn the computer monitor so you can see it for yourself and you still don't believe me...lens crafters is down the hall.  To add to this, no I can't give you a discount for fingerprints on the cover of your $3.00 children's book, you Prada wearing cheapskate.
