Firefox 2.0
« on: November 03, 2006, 12:28:37 PM »

I can't believe they used ALT-S for History.  Now, I can't use it for posting messages on forums like this one.  Feh.

Is there a way you can change the accesskey="s" to accesskey="p" or something?

That screws me up too.

Other weird things happen as well, like occassionally losing the ability to use CTL-V in the URL field.

Alt + S is "save"?  I've always used cntrl+S . . .  and cntrl+a, cntrl+c, cntrl+v, cntrl+z, etc.  Hmm, this opens a whole new, ALTernate world for me.
Heh.
Eh heh.

What's seriously screwing me up now is the "Fn" key (function?) on this laptop. It's in the lower, left hand corner - right where I usually go for the Cntrl key... which is the next one over.

I still have 3 or 4 of these kicking around. I occasionally plug one in just to relive the glory days.

Fsck. Alt+S is Save in our CMS at work. I'll have to fix it when I finally install 2.0 -- thanks for digging up the workaround, Biz!

A programmer here uses one of those keyboards on purpose.  You can hear him typing from the other side of Cubeville.

I find I prefer Firefox to Safari.  How are you finding it?

It's kinda slow to update.  Plus it won't let me leave karma in this site.  I guess I'll DL ol firefox for this new box.

Oh and where do I put the hosts list for a mac?  And what's the linky to that site with the cool hosts list?

While on the subject of Firefox, or at least we were on the subject of Firefox, has anyone else ran into problems with Firefox and the latest version of Shockwave? Nearly any page with flash embedded makes Firefox lock up.

I glanced over this. It was a pretty interesting read.

Of course, as more and more people begin to use Firefox, there will be more and more exploits out there for it.

As much as Firefox likes to lockup on me, I don't plan on using IE again anytime soon.

Most of those myths are no surprise to me, but I'm sticking with Firefox for most things. I've never once experienced a problem with it and it suits me fine. Opera is superior in a lot of ways but I have this crippling allergy against things that cost real money. Hehehe...real money, what an oxymoron.

Opera has been free (and ad free) for some time now. It's actually pretty good now. You should give it a try if that's why you were holding back.

In order to get Firefox to do the stuff I'm used to in Opera, it takes a butt-ton of extensions.

And in my experience, the more extensions you add in Firefox, the less stable it becomes.  It also increases the resources FF eats up just to run.

I use Firefox as a backup browser in case I run across something that doesn't work in Opera, but I have to admit that that doesn't happen very often.  Whenever I do give Firefox a try, I'm always struck by how slow and cumbersome it is by comparison.

I want to love Firefox... I really do.  But it still seems so kludgey and half-assed in so many ways.  I will simply have to wait until it matures a few more versions, apparently.
