News stories that they never follow up on...
« on: May 09, 2007, 08:48:21 PM »

Don't you hate how the mainstream media never follows up on big stories?

For example, a recent discussion on the topic of assassination attempts reminded me of Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenk
You may remember when he looked like this after the dioxin thing.  This story was the lead story for quite some time because... well, because the image was shocking.

....which is a far cry from how he looked before he was poisoned.

Ever wonder how his face looked after the dioxin has left his system?  Here's the most recent picture I could find of him...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Viktor_Yuschenko.jpg

Not a bad recovery if you ask me.  Sure, it made him look years older, but... wow.

Got any follow ups you'd like to share?

What they're not telling you is that right after he was poisoned with dioxin, he foolishly popped a couple of aspirins.

Of course they don't follow up, the vast majority of the public doesn't care about people when they're healthy, they only care about them when they're freaks and outlandish, either socially, or physically.

It's not news anymore after what made it out of the ordinary is gone.

I didn't ask, "Why?"

I know why they don't follow up on such stories.  They don't tell you about the house that didn't burn down, either.  I just thought it would be interesting if we did our own follow up investigation on stories that interested us at one time, but have fallen off the map.

BizB, just so you don't think I'm blowing off the concept of this thread, I spent a chunk of time last night trying to run down a story that sort of meshes with the Yuschenko story. This last March, two Russian-born women (a mother and her daughter), both upstanding Los Angeles citizens, were poisoned with thallium during a trip back to Russia. Here are two of many articles: Click, click. I thought it would be a good fit for this thread if I could find a followup to see how they're doing now, and whether it's been determined as an accidental or deliberate poisoning, but they have truly fallen off the radar. Maybe it's too soon.

Here's a good one:

Gary Condit

What happened to this guy? After the September 11th attacks, he pretty much disappeared.

Remember that mystery Piano man with amnesia found on the beach in a soaking wet dinner suit?

What happened to the police officers that tasered a UCLA student and threatened a bystander?
