Mea Maxima Culpa
« on: May 08, 2008, 06:37:29 PM »

"I confess to almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have sinned through my own fault,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do."

~excerpt from a traditional prayer in the Mass of the Roman Catholic Church known as "Confiteor"

Im sorry. I know that is but a simple apology for the atrocity in which i have committed. But there is nothing else I can say to describe how "bad" I feel. I was wrong to go against so many of you in your own community, and i was especially wrong to treat BizB the way I did. And so, with my previous "hello" in mind, I will re-introduce myself:

Hi! My name is dudmaker and Im excited to be a new member of this awesome forum. Im 25 and I live in America. By the way, I read the rules and understand this community's feelings about people treating this place like a tech-support forum, But I thought I'd ask my question just the same.  If I get an answer, great.  If not, I understand why.

Is it possible to create a desktop shortcut that would link to a install file of a program that i have already downloaded, and then at the end of the link in the shortcut  add a "pass and argument" whatever, that made it so when i installed the file, it didn't make any registry entries?

       ~thx!

*POOF!*  And you're all good! Just like that! Welcome back.

And I don't know the answer to your question for certain, but I'm inclined to believe the answer is "no". Registry entries and any installation conditions are created by installing the file/app/etc; not by the shortcut. The only way to "install" a prog without the registry entries (which in itself is debateable; if there's no registry entries; it's apparently not installed) is to back up your registry first; then install the prog, then back up your registry to the old one. The program files will be in place; but no registry entries. Keep in mind, however, that when a program installs, many times it affects other programs or processes; if those registry entries are removed after install, there's no telling WHAT your comp might or might NOT do, or what other programs may be rendered useless.

Agreed. Messing around with the registry is a fast track to boned-town unless you are sure you know what you're doing.

Yes.

Just because 12 said, "No", and I feel like being contrary. Keep in mind I have no idea what you are talking about.

See, this is why I don't like to put so much effort into new people.  All this effort to bring him into the fold and he's been away for 10 days.

You can't keep up with this place and stay away from it for 10 fracking days.

Mebbe he read all the "no" responses to his shortcut/registry question that he said FARK IT.

Yeah, tbh I don't really bother either. HN cast too many doubts on humanity for me to ever...trust...again...
