Obama Vs. Notre Dame
« on: April 17, 2009, 12:48:42 PM »

President Barack Obama was scheduled to speak at commencement at Notre Dame University, however due to his views on abortion, and stem cell research many alumni of the highly acclaimed university are threatening to hold back their donations if he is allowed to speak. In history every president since the schools creation has spoken at the commencement ceremony.
 :slap

Personally I see these actions as a way for people(not just Catholics) to use there own doctrine to justify their own hate. Yes President Obama has different values, but in the end, by every word in the bible, aren't we taught to cohabitate with our fellow man and treat him as we wish to be treated. Just a little advice out there for the students of Notre Dame, pull the plank from your own eye before you attempt to remove the speck from Obama's.

Looking forward to hearing your views on this  :-D

"This man holds many views that are contrary to what we espouse. I don't think we should have him give the speech" = OMG HATE

You can disagree with somebody and respectfully request that they do not show up on campus and give a speech without it being, you know, hate.

Now if Obama asked if it would be OK if he gave a speech and their response was "Up yours, Nigger" then maybe I'd agree that there was an element of hate involved.

Maybe you could link the source article in question?

I think I have to agree with xolik.  It is possible for a disagreement to be driven by something other than hate.  In this case you're talking about a CATHOLIC institution.  It makes sense to me that they wouldn't necessarily want a pro-choice speaker at their biggest event of the year.

Heh, I can totally see that.

But if "every president since the schools creation has spoken at the commencement ceremony", they must have overlooked it at some point in the past?

Keeping in mind I am young and asking this because I sincerely don't know, but has a president entered office openly saying he was pro-choice before?

Also, I get it and I don't have a problem with it.

Ironically the one topic where I have a lot to say, yet can't say anything.  I like my job.

I will say this: not every President has spoken at ND since its founding.  We've had (I believe) Kennedy, Carter, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II.  Clinton was invited but declined.

I'll also say Randal Terry needs to go away.  This is a Notre Dame issue, not his.

I don't want a person under my employment speaking at any commencement when there are more pressing issues.  Come on Obama, get to work and quit campaigning already.

And when, exactly, did you get the impression that Obama was particularly smart? sure, he can talk, he's good at that, but I don't exactly see him passing out his I.Q. test results or applying for mensa membership or anything.

The moment he was elected. I have more faith in Obama then in George. I don't need a US marine on my doorstep to deliver democracy and with George I was not entirely sure that would not happen.

I'm pretty sure the country is screwed no matter who is in charge. Wonder what will happen when the whole damn place goes bankrupt?
