We've got Tescos now. They're called Fresh and Easy.

Good stuff, actually.

tescos have degrees of stores. Different sizes. It allows them to open anywhere. You cant spit in england without hitting one. And they can still stay open all day sunday if they have a small enough stop....which they do. They are taking over england.

So am I the only one who benefited from the huge stimulus bill so far?

My school system was going to have to cut 512 positions.  This meant 10 teachers at my school, increased class sizes for all, loss of all of our part timers (including one very special Calculus teacher who did the reading at my wedding) and the loss of our dean of students.  This also meant that if I decided to have a baby and go to part time...I'd be out of a job.

But all of a sudden the county found some money from the state who found some money from the federal and none of those things will happen.  Except for maybe the class sizes, but I sure hope not.  It's already way too crowded.  I don't have enough calculators or desks for that and other teachers have more students than I do.

Oh, and no more tuition reimbursement after this year.  Good thing I'm taking my class NOW!!  Hahahahaha!!!!

I work at a research program at Wichita State University that is funded by a certain enormous networking company (if you really want to know, I've said who it is in previous posts).

They were planning on cutting us off completely until the WSU professor who runs the research program flew out to San Jose to talk to the CEO among other people and convinced them to keep us on.

The one change we are seeing is big companies are pulling their premium contracts and getting regular-joe contracts and support. The premium contract side of our research program is migrating to something else due to the lack of contracts.

Also, the economic downturn seems to make people want to give us crappy reviews. Either that or it makes us want to be unhelpful.

Well, I was laid off again a couple weeks ago. Both times from large IT Consulting companies. First one was a top 5 Financial contract around this time last year, when they started cutting back on external contracts. Then after about 6 months of looking for wr0k, I got hired for a App support role for a Telco contract. Due to the downturn they decided to take all their onshore contracts and move them offshore. Unfortunately for me, I was still in my probation period so ...  :-(

My company had a 10% RIF back in November.  Salary freeze.  Cuts to travel, employee recognition, non-mission critical items, etc.  The Board also eliminated the CEO and 5 EVPs and basically eliminated an upper layer of management.  Our company has tons of cash, so we can weather this for another decade or so.

I was wondering why your LinkedIn profile status is "looking for a job" all of the sudden.  Haven't talked to you much lately, so I didn't get a chance to ask you what was up.

Sorry to hear that man.  Hope you find something soon.  I'm still looking myself (for a real job) so misery loves company, at least.

I haven't been around IRC much during the days lately since I seem to be spending to much time sleeping or watching downloaded TV shows. I'm pretty sure I babbled about it on the channel at some point.

Thanks for the sympathy, there's hardly anything being posted locally that I've seen.

Yeah, same here.  My job search used to consist of me applying for 3-5 jobs a week.

Now I'm lucky if I can find one listing that's worth throwing a resume at every couple of weeks.

  • No salary freeze
  • Switching gears from Hosptality to Genral
  • Freeze On Hiring
  • Several clients Out Of Business
  • 401K is gone
  • More Travel
  • "Going Green" with shitty TP

I wasn't to worried about losing my 401K, there actually giving us more pay raises and double time now as apposed to time and 1/2, which I always seem to get.

If I lost my 401K, I'd be pissed. Like "busting up furniture" pissed.  :x
