Words of advice from the experienced.

If you plan on getting married, save up at least $30,000 and hire a wedding planner.  Or, better yet, elope.

Haha I don't have to deal with all that crap. Just do what my boss did. Go to the court on his lunch break and have it done there.

We got married on a beach in St Thomas as part of a cruise.  Invited close family and friends to come along for the cruise, no gifts required.

Got away with a lot less than 30k.

Yeh, just had a lot going on (IRL) which sucked up my capacity for any empathy anywhere for anyone; and that's not conducive to being a well-friended member. So I had to deny myself the opportunity to come in here and act shitty here in attempt to feel better; which would have been counter-productive at best, obviously.

**edit-  wait that makes it sound as if I was wanting to come here and act shitty...  what I mean is; by the time I had the opportunity to surf (and come here); I was already in a foul mood with a dim view of things. So instead of coming in here simmering; I got busy on several home projects I have. Producing something is always much more uplifting than arguing; especially online.  :-)

Marriage has been good to me so far.  It'll be 20 years in Sept.  Our wedding cost us about $2K and her father dropped about $8K for the reception.  It was pretty budget, but we had a good time.

Marriage  ...  It'll be 20 years in Sept.

That deserves a congratulations of it's own.

Welcome back Jay.   I was wondering where the hell you ran off to.

Reimero...agreed!  I thought it would be cheaper in VA than in NY and it turned out more expensive.  You can't do much here for less than what you said there.  I'm not going to say how much mine cost.  It was obscene.

Welcome back Jay.
Thanks. :-)

I have no idea how much my wedding cost. They wouldn't let me have anything to do with any planning at all.
My mom: "Jay! The guys don't do the planning!! Shoo! Go away!"
Of course; it wasn't me (or us) paying for it, either, so. . . to me it seems like it would have been rude to ask. Ya know?

Right, right. Of course nothing Dutch is similar to anything German.

Some Dutch people I know are a bit touchy about that after the last big war.

And that has what to do with a question about a wedding tradition? I didn't ask him if he supported Nazism. I just asked if Dutch people throw and break dishes as a tradition there.
If that somehow conjures up a comparison to Nazi Germany; someone needs counseling.
