As you've likely guessed by now I'm a huge fan of Televangelists. Their command of the audience, style of speaking, the whole thing. I'm also incredibly amused by edits of their antics (farting preacher anyone?). Here's probably the funniest I've ever seen.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Ice Boat?
« on: July 13, 2007, 10:41:53 PM »
Does anybody know anything about a boat that was intentionally frozen in ice and sailed down with the seasonal current, but ran into problems and the crew met up with some Russians (I think they were Russians) who were trying to find a new land route to the Pole? I seem to remember reading about this but can't find the book and only vaguely recall it.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Stop Frame
« on: June 29, 2007, 11:24:57 PM »
I want to make a short stop frame animation film and want to know how to shoot single frames with my mini-DV camera. I can make do by recording for one second then stopping, but that makes for fairly choppy animation. I can compensate manually, but I was wondering if there's some way to make the camera record one frame at a time?

Political Opinions / How 'bout that Pacifism, eh?
« on: June 28, 2007, 12:33:07 PM »
I've recently been thinking a lot about Pacifism, and it seems to make a lot of sense in some situations, but not others. For example, it's pretty damn cool how Ghandi beat the British, but I can't help but think that if he was up against, say Nazi Germany, they'd have just wasted him and all his followers and gone right on through.

Entertainment / The Root of All Evil?
« on: May 21, 2007, 01:35:02 PM »
Just finished watching this, and it kicked ass. It's not flawless by any means, but extremely good nonetheless. A must see for any Dawkins fan, here's a clip:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=YjqUmuMhTsM

This struck me as particularily horrific since I'd only watched 'Blind Watchmaker' a month earlier and one of the coolest bits is about the evolution of the eye. Haggard is as hypocritical as ever (I think this was before his little "prostitute massage/meth deal) and Professor Dawkins is clearly a calmer man than I to resist losing it.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Dreamweaver?
« on: May 15, 2007, 05:13:12 PM »
I'm sitting down once again to start coding my new site (I got a deal with scrapetorrent so I get a discount on hosting to about five bucks Canadian each month with shitloads of features), and once again I'm struck with my horrible lack of skillz. I learned to write decent HTML in 1999, mainly by taking apart other people's sites and messing around through trial and error, but now that makes sites look like, well, they were made in 1999. I really just want to run a site where I can rant, post satirical ramblings, maybe a podcast and some video/audio files, at least at the moment. I'd like as much technical control as possible, but I'm not sure if I want to learn PHP or Java, at least right now. Dreamweaver seems a logical choice, but I've  seen some of it's output code and it doesn't seem very streamlined at all. What would you guys recommend?

Entertainment / Getcher RED HOT Brand New Chick Tracts here!
« on: May 10, 2007, 11:21:32 PM »
I've been a huge fan of Chick tracts for years now, and I just checked back and found that my old buddy Jack has churned out a couple of new ones!

http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1033/1033_01.asp

First up is the heartwarming story of why Jesus is different than Santa or the Easter Bunny (answer: the Bible says so). Highlights include 'Nobody fucks wit da Jesus' and what appears to be a paleontologist who is very displeased with his drumstick.

http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1107/1107_01.asp

This one is pretty abstract and weird (well, more so than usual). It involves various people being led around on a leash, and a pretty cool looking Baphomet stand in. Highlights are the near incomprehensible and hilarious drawings. I'd recommend something herbal to go with this one, personally.

Entertainment / Dexter
« on: April 15, 2007, 11:53:40 PM »
Anybody heard of this show? I remembered seeing an ad in the TV guide months ago and for some reason it drifted into my consciousness the other night. One thing led to another and now I've seen all the episodes. Holy shit, I may just end up turning my TV on again in five months when season 2 starts. If you need a reas on to pay for cable (or head on over to your favourite Torrent tracker, I won't judge), this is it. This show is if a slightly nicer (at least externally) Hannibal Lecter had a running TV show, and it pwns all. Dexter FTW.

I made this in two hours (I've decided not to sleep anymore). It's now 7:20 AM local time and I woke up at 2 pm yesterday. I no longer posess the rudimentary math skillz it would require to compute the time in between, but at least I have this to show for it.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Slackware

I've obtained all the parts for my new computarbohks, save for hard drives. I'm presently downloading the ISO files (extensions .iso, .iso.asc, and iso.md5) with BT, but once they're done I don't know how to burn them properly to a DVD with Windoze 2000.

This is a fairly classic game I'd be interested to have start here at teh Geekery. Pretty much anyone who's been very young at one point is familiar with it, so it likely needs no introduction, and I'm wasting space here by trying to create one despite the evident superfluousness of my efforts.

I shall begin.

I know this is on a free-energy freak site and there's a nutty conspiracy theory in there, but is the idea of magnetic flux switching total BS? The boots themselves look sorta cool.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Free Airsoft Gun

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=300077449346&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=020

I bid on this on the advice of a friend who was reading ebay descriptions on his cell phone (last time I do that, that's for sure). It was dirt cheap and it's probably crappy, but it turns out they won't ship to Canada. I don't want to make a big deal with the seller and screw up my feedback (I've only made 4 purchases on this account so far). If you want a free airsoft gun, PM me your shipping info and I'll send it on over. First come, first served.

I'd just like to take a brief moment to thank everyone here for being here and willing to talk to me. It's been funny, educational, and a welcome break from the majority of the crap I deal with during my day. Thanks to Chris for running the forum and everyone in it for being there. I just felt like saying that, have a nice day.

Political Opinions / Democrats and Republicans
« on: February 01, 2007, 01:47:57 PM »
Up here in the frosty land of Canadia, I've had problems for the last little while in trying to sort out the differences between Republicans and Democrats. My neighbors in the nearby igloos seem to think that a two party system that exists for that long will eventually homogenize, and Democrats and Rebublicans are more alike than they like to admit. However, since my time in glorious US and A is measured with a watch and not a calendar, I am in no way qualified to form an opinion.

I realize it's full of 'vote or die' style prop, but are the facts correct?
