What if we don't have a job?  Because that's kinda sucking ass for me right now when I have bills to pay.

Not working sucks.  I should get a job...

Try Barnes & Noble.  They'll hire anyone.  It's actually in their policy to do that, and if you can work full time for a certain amount of time their benefits are really good.  Of course, they'll try to suck you in, so there's that.

Weddings without alchohol are amish or end up in a divorce within 5 years.

They are pretty religious, but I think there was no alcohol because either it was too expensive an option, or the church would not allow it (the ceremony and reception were in the same place, 2 different rooms).  However, there was a small chocolate fountain, so that was kind of awesome.

The last wedding I went to I had 2 glasses of champagne and 1 glass of wine.  I was going to have another, but then the centerpiece on our table came crashing down and took out my water.  Somehow that was a deterrant, dunno why.  I try not to drink too much at weddings, it gets embarrassing.  There was a hopelessly drunk guy at the last wedding I went to and everyone was watching him as though he was a show on TV.  Also, my parents were there, so that would have been weird.  The wedding I went to before that had no alcohol at all.  It was weird.

I have a secretarial job. It's not the best job in the world, and my pay was better at the bookstore (but the local store in the chain here wouldn't even talk to me....ugh), but it could be worse.  I have minimal contact with people which means I have no good stories, no people to bitch about, nothing.  I'm not a fan of 4 graduate classes and working about 16 hours/week though.  At least I have 3 day weekends, and maybe one day, one of those days will be just for me, and I can sleep in or something.

Sometimes, procrastination actually works for me.  I sometimes work better under pressure.  That aside, set up your work so you have multiple things to do at once.  Work on one thing for a while, then switch, and so on, like TheJudge said earlier.  If you have a lot of time to finish multiple tasks, including breaks to re-evaluate how much work you've finished and clear your head can't hurt.  I personally like to make lists.  Something about crossing stuff off with a Sharpie I guess.

The clicking of the keyboard as any semblance of "me time" (ex: sleep, hygiene) mosies on down the drain.  Also, I put Buffy season 6 on as background noise.

Shakespeare Barbie Fishing Kit

I know nothing about fishing, so seeing "Shakespeare" and "Barbie" in the same sentence made me laugh.

I just realized the other day that I need a new prescription...My friend and I were at Uno Pizzeria and something something bblah, and there were tvs on the other side of the room showing the Colts game...she could read the team initials, score, quarter, and time remaining.  I could see where it all was, but none of the actual characters. :-(  I figure, maybe a few more years before lasik...just a few ;-)  For now, contacts and coke bottle glasses! (contacts are -7.5 and -8.5 currently).

Ahh lucky!  I would love to get Lasik but I have to wait till my eyes stop getting so bad so fast.  They're slowing down (new prescription every year and a half-2 years or so), so maybe in a few years when they've leveled off a bit.

How bad were your eyes before?  Just curious.  (open to all who've gotten the Fricken Laser Beam treatment  :-P)

Ooo! Ooo! Me too! Me too! :-D

Well, one advantage of being late is I know now you didn't feel so great on your birthday, so here's wishing you a Happy Every Other Day Except Your Birthday! :-)

Thanks!  That's kinda awesome!

Aww, thanks guys!  :-D  Unfortunately, I had something vaguely resembling the plague (aka the common cold) on my birthday, but fortunately I feel much better now.

Saw this one on the news last night, had me cracking up, but if you're a bit squeemish, you might want to give it a miss.

Yeah Joel McHale made fun of it on The Soup recently.  Gross, but amusing.

Flamer's Corner / Re: Am I over-reacting: Part II
« on: October 06, 2007, 07:35:05 PM »
Totally out of line.  I enjoy dark humor, but there was nothing funny about what he said, and clearly does not qualify as ANY kind of humor.  You are not over-reacting.  In fact, you should do something with your reaction.

Like the previous few posters have said, keep a record of EVERYTHING.  If a confrontation (think more of a verbal gentle nudge than a punch in the face-like you said, he seems the type to abuse the position) doesn't help, see if your college has some sort of Ombuds or another form of conflict resolution office.  Ours handles all sorts of university complaints.

Not really.  We all were free that day and wanted to do something, so we decided on going into town.  I'd like to say I invited them to come with me, but it seemed more mutual.  In the past when someone else has driven there I always pitch in for meters and whatnot.  I guess maybe I shouldn't anymore.  In general I usually aim for degree 2 under what TheJudge mentioned earlier.

Flamer's Corner / Manners, or I'm overreacting
« on: September 24, 2007, 02:11:04 PM »
A little while ago I went to a small city with a couple of friends.  All parking in this town is metered, and the first parking garage cost $1.50.  Neither friend offered to pay or put a quarter in, nothing.  I figured, ok, maybe at the next one.  The next place we went to (not within walking distance of the first, thus switching garages) cost $4.  I am currently not working and had saved my money for the purchases I had made that day, and with all the driving around I ended up needing to get gas ($30 even).  Now that I can understand them not wanting or feeling like they should put in any money because I started out the day with under 1/2 a tank.

We are all students, so I get that money is tight, but they volunteered to come along.  I might have refused their money, but the point is to offer to help pay, no?  That's how I was raised.  Your ass sat in the car, you help pay, or at the very least make the offer to do so.  I offer to help pay for gas, parking meters, etc every time I am a passenger.  I'd feel guilty if I didn't.

Now, I am not about to go back and ask them to pay up.  I do not feel right asking people for money in vague circumstances.  Here is my question:  Am I overreacting?  Is the person driving solely responsible for all costs of said trip?  Even if they are minimal?

Plenty of people with eating disorders have jobs, I should have been more specific.  The ones that are old enough to get a job.  A lot of them are kids, really.  There's a lot of crossover and comparison between addiction and eating disorders, so I figured I'd ask what you thought about the ones in and out of hospitals a lot, or at least for extensive periods of time.

DAMNIT, I missed it.  If the show was up to its usual level of crazy I'm sure I'll hear about it on The Soup on Friday.  Unless it's on during Doctor Who.
