My car is on E and I kept trying to remind myself the last couple of days to check my bank accoutn to see how much gas I could purchase since I only have $20 in my wallet. I log in this morning to the online banking and BAM!

I have my taxes back already! I just did them last week, how special is that? Who wants to go out for beers?!

We wait until the absolute last minute, because we usually pay in.

The longer those fuckers have to wait for our money, the better, I say.

I need to wait for my magic accountant to get back from vacation before I find out how much I'll owe\get back. Hopefully he'll pull off another miracle and I'll get money back this year.

This year, for the first time in a very long time, I got a refund.  Usually, I wait until the last minute as well.  Last year, I owed the feds about $60 and got abou $30 back from state.  I love it when that happens.

I already spent my refund.

You don't really have to give the government any of your money before April 15 -- why not hang on to it and earn interest on it? I used to take the maximum exemptions to maximize my paycheck and always ended up owing, especially if I got some kind of windfall, like a bonus.

You never owe more than what you are legally required to owe -- it's just a matter of how much you pay monthly. If you underpay, you have to cough up the difference in April. If you overpay, you get the overage back. Getting that big chunk back is always a nice feeling -- until you realize that it was money that you gave the government for absolutely no good reason whatsoever, enabling them to earn interest on it instead of you.

I got a couple of thousand back and used it all to fix my bank account that a certain two people who owe me a ton of money decided to wreck for me.

But if either of them pay up, I'll be doing pretty well.

Exactly.

Which makes ill-conceived concepts like Social Security even MORE offensive.
